To not derail the Matson thread, I am bringing this to its own thread with a quote from hotkatz:

If we slow down the need for shipping of goods, we can at the same time, reduce the use of the landfills for items that still have a usable lifespan!
1) try to use your cellphone for longer than the newer greater one's release date.
2) Glass jars work just as well as gladware or ziplock containers.
