Stillhope, when shopping for insurance, you have to compare apples to apples. A lower rate from one company may not mean lower cost insurance. They could be quoting you less insurance. Additionally, you need to be looking at insurance based on your driving record. Since it a daunting task to go to each carrier and compare rates, the State has done that for you.

Each year the State takes a specific type of driver with a specific type of vehicle, and they compare what each carrier charges for a specific level of insurance based on that driver and vehicle. They also go one step further and also compare rates if that driver had a moving violation. This will let you see a snapshot of what carriers charge based on the exact same driver and vehicle.

The islandwide list is the most comprehensive premium info for all islands. Also check the report for Hawaii island as well, since that will list the complaint ranking. No good having a low price policy if the carrier has the worst satisfaction ranking of all companies.
