I will second that one. Fran is a good friend of mine and she makes great cream puffs! I was lucky enough to be one of her taste testers when she was working on her formulas last spring!

We went to the Hilo Pond restaurant last night for dinner and had a great evening. It is expensive by Hilo standards, but you also get soup, salad & starch with your entree. Wine list was credible. Food was good, service TOP NOTCH and the atmosphere was excellent. The menu seems limited, only two fish offerings, Salmon (which is certainly not local) and Ahi (which certainly is). Lots of steak options. Nice appetizer menu too.

One of the best things we had were the Clams in Thai Broth... superb. All four of us agreed it was a winner.

If you want a nice dining experience, I say make a visit. You can request a window seat when you make a reservation. They had live music, but it was not loud, just easy listening.

And if you get a window seat, ask for the fish food and feed the fishies Smile

We fed them too David. They were fun fish to feed... they came flying across the pond. And three ducks got some treats too!

Devany,
Please beg your friend to stay open later, I know I am not the only person who would love to pick up cream puffs on the way home or to take to a party, but I am at work during all their open hours! A coworker brought some to a staff meeting and they were wonderful.

Is the Hilo Pond restaurant the one opened by the Ken's family in the old Harringtons spot?

I will tell Fran Carol, but she has to start work at 4 am to have things ready for the morning rush. They open at 7 am, bud do close early at 2. Only open Wed.-Saturday too. I am sure eventually she will have some staff there to be available. She also takes special orders for cakes etc.

And Yes, the restaurant is the same as Harrington's and Ice Pond before it, now owned by the owners of Ken's. This is probably why they have such great customer service.

Devany,
If the cream puff lady might want some interns we have a whole bunch of kids who are still mourning the demise of our culinary arts program and would love to do an internship at a cream puff bakery. These are great kids: motivated, hard working and sincerely interested in a career in the food industry. Give her my contact info if she is interested in finding out more.
