Superferry, is it good or bad for Hawaii?
The only "law" it broke was supposedly an EIA, that was only pertinent to their maui docking facility, which was an oversite from the last legislature. Then they fixed it so what, that is their job, as it was the judges to let them ride!

Aahh, you read the opinion, didn't you?
[Big Grin]

I was disappointed with the legislature passing the law, not because of the HSF, but because it ruined my get rich quick scheme.

I had planned on monitoring every building permit and when one was pulled, I would notify the owner that I wanted an EIA to be completed before they do anything to their land. My basis was because they needed a waste system; I wanted to make sure it doesn’t have any impact on the ocean or shorelines. Of course, they could quietly agree to negotiate a cash settlement and I wouldn't file for them to conduct an EIA. I was well within my legal rights to demand one and nobody could stop me. No agency or department could intervene and prevent it. Imagine the cost to the landowner to complete a full EIA and the time it would take for them to do so. Add in all the legal and technical challenges to their report and I bet they would have regretted not forking over a few thousand dollars to me not to file. But alas, the legislature ruined my plans.[Sad]

Wow... just read the following leak

In it, it concludes:
......
The USCG has ordered massive work to be done.

As of this writing, negotiations are under way with USCG to formulate a plan of repair. The damage is so extensive, no one is sure when or if it will ever get out of dry dock.

One long-time worker at an adjacent boat yard stated: “I don’t think that vessel will ever be put back into service”.

So if it gets fixed, but can only run at 20 kts, would anyone accept it?

Maybe a boat strong enough for local waters should be crafted out of logs and plant material, built with stone tools, and navigated without instuments. (This isn't meant to dis anyone, just honor centuries old polynesian voyaging techniques)

And it's just announced that it will be down even longer.

We are extending the amount of time the Alakai will be in drydock because work to repair damage to the ship that occurred during the drydocking process is going to take longer than was previously projected.

Based on the latest repair schedule, reservations for sailings after April 22...

And in today's headlines:
