Shark Bite Victim - Pohoiki Boat Ramp
#11
Hey did you see that news station that did the "wi too low" or whatever they said is making youtube, etc take off the clips of this debacle.... because of .... COPYRIGHT infringement.... [Big Grin][:p][Big Grin][:p][}Smile][Big Grin][:p]

I do appreciate HNN though because except for their dramatic hurricane coverage they are pretty good about their news, and not making it too over the top dramatic.

So how is the guy doing? Is he going to be okay?

Tell that to the 25 y.o. guy in the hospital.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Just saw it on the News flash.
Does anyone know where it happened exactly. They showed 1st bay and 2nd bay. and called the spot dead trees. That made me think it was at 1st bay. that's where some prominent dead trees are submerged at the high tide mark. I surf both spots and was thinking about going today but had some other things to take care of...Makes you think what if.

One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

Don't know about coconuts, but more people are killed by sharks in California and Florida than in Hawai'i. The last confirmed death from shark attack in Hawai'i was in 1999.

For that matter, many more people in the US are killed each year by dog bites than by shark attack. Roughly 50 to 3 the last time I checked.

I was snorkeling at Hapuna Beach today and it was closed minutes after I got out due to a tiger shark sighting. What a beautiful day though! Lots of shark attacks lately.

DLNR UPDATE - Pohoiki Shark Attack on Jimmy "Ulu Boy" Napeahi - Pohoiki to Reopen Tomorrow

The Department of Land and Natural Resources closed ocean waters along the Pohoiki coastline in Puna this afternoon, following a shark incident in which a 16 year old male surfer was bit across both legs at the Pohoiki surfing area near the Pohoiki boat launch ramp. The male was transported by County Fire Department first responders to the Pahoa Fire Station, and he was then air lifted to Hilo Medical Center.
