serious dog bite in HPP
#11
Unfortunately waiting for the police or HS to take care of the problem before or after the fact is an exercise in frustration.

Our police chief is treading water waiting for retirement.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Mac nut and leilani - this is kind of confusing. I recall a post about a woman being bite on Shower near 26th. That woman was reportedly severely hurt but there was not a lot of detail. Are you now saying that the attack was on 10th? Or were there TWO DIFFERENT attacks.

Trying to keep it straight here and there are no links to previous threads.

I've been attacked by dogs a number of times while walking along Beach Rd. Thankful nothing as serious as what sounds like happened to this woman. Can't even walk on my own street due to the number of dogs that are allowed to roam free.

Dog has had taste of human. It is no longer afraid. Has to be dealt with immediately. My .02

Are you a human being, or a human doing?

This attack was on 10th between paradise and makuu and was some time ago, maybe a few weeks. not sure about the one reported on shower. The police have been doing sweeps in HPP for loose dogs recently to try and help the situation.

The attack on 10th st happened just last wk. The pictures are seriously narly! If you see a loose/problem dog in HPP email neighborhood watch at hppneighborhoodwatch@aol.com or call Officer Santos, 965-2716 and leave a message. They are planning another 'Dog Sweep' sometime in the near future.

I work with dogs in Brooklyn right now and I know what you mean but it really depends on the personality of the dog and the personality of the owners. I have broken up pit bulls who were attacking and I know that they can feel remorse and regret. You can tell that they know they did something really bad, some dogs that is. The other dogs that don't feel remorse are usually strays, dogs who get little or no human contact and/or dogs that have been severely abused. Anyway , it is too difficult to figure out what kind of owners and how the dog feels about it in this situation.

I just get so pissed to hear about this stuff because this dog will probably be killed due to the negligence of it's owners. Dogs are usually trying to please who ever they feel is alpha in their life. So this dog was probably doing what it thought was its job. This is due to something wrong that the owner is doing. There should be jail time or a serious fine for this type of thing so people take dog ownership a little more serious.

It's like open carrying a gun and having it discharge into some innocent by standards arm. Someone needs to be held accountable.

Given the past history of the HPD's response to dog attacks, I think you're being an extreme optimist. Unless one of the neighbors kills it, in which case they'll probably be charged with animal cruelty while nothing happens to the dog owner.

I live in the Park and consider myself to be a responsible dog owner. My fence is strong and keeps my dogs at bay. Please be a responsible "passer byer, " and DO NOT try to be friendly with my dogs. Their menacing barks is what they are fed to do. In other words, they are simply doing their jobs. No need to be friendly, give them treats, or try to be their friend. Best you could do is simply keep on walking. Crime happens in HPP. Dogs play a crucial role.

For the many IRRESPONSIBLE dog owners....some right on my street....they are liable for any damages their dogs would cause.

It is amazing to me how some dog owners have no concept of keeping their pets at bay (a dog not fenced in or on a leash is a dog that is not really loved by the owner). Letting it it roam free is an invitation to get pepper sprayed or worse case killed by a passing car (happens more often than you would think). Animals are typically stupid when it comes to strangers and cars so please please protect them from themselves !!!!!
