Use the cleared lot at the corner of Apaa where HELCO was staging equipment post-Iselle.
It's already there.
That might not work since the flow is supposedly going to be South of that lot.

It may be resolved this weekend when the hurricane blows them over and they crush the community center.
I wish people in Puna could put a higher value on human life than trees.

It does not have to be or either/or situation, unless the FD insists on it being so. They have other options if they would choose to look at them.
And the trees are not scraggly.

I wish people who defend individual trees would care about forests and pin-to-pin land-clearing. Can't see the forest...?

Why do you assume they don't? Do you know everyone who objects to cutting these trees and their position on pin to pin clearing and health of the forests?

Monkey Pod trees (Albizia saman) are Not native to Puna, The Big Island, Hawaii or even the Pacific Islands in any way....
Not endangered in any way either...
No biggy... and whats more important a 'weed tree' or a fire engine parking lot

Again, it doesn't have to be either/or - no one has explained why it can't easily be both.

Firemen work a schedule where they sleep over at the fire station, so that they can be ready for fires in the middle of the night - 24 hour shifts x 4 days, then 4 days off. So the fire trucks have to be parked as close as possible so that they can get to them immediately. Parking the trucks in the pool parking lot is too far away, when every second counts in an emergency. And the old Xmas tree lot even more so. Still, one would hope for a win-win alternative. Since there are no longer classes or community events at the community center, the parking lot next to their building is no longer crowded, and also there is the area behind the building that could be utilized. Of course, the roots of the monkeypods are threatening the foundations of the building, and should be pruned on that side anyway.

I want my Senior center back and I want those trees there, with their beautiful cool shade, perfect for relaxing on hot days .
What seems to be happening around our area is a lot of projection of awful things to come used as an excuse to destroy things which are beautiful & irreplaceable, at least in the near term.Soon Pahoa and it's rural nature will be like every other nice place that was destroyed for parking lots.

I will not forgive the Catholic church for their cutting down of that huge Banyan tree that was near the edge of the highway not threatening
anything.
