I don't know. If I allowed an employee access to a company credit card and found out they used it at a hostess bar, I wouldn't be very happy, no matter if they paid it back. That's not what company/government credit cards are supposed to be used for.
This was a mayor, not some lowly county employee. I agree the mayor needs time off time to time, but so do I, and I don't use the company credit card to do it, and even if I did, it wouldn't be used at a hostess bar.
It's totally inappropriate and sordid at the same time. I'm astonished people are trying to defend the mayor's behaviour.

It's not the first time he's used the card for personal expenses; he has made something like 24 reimbursements. That sounds like a pattern of figuring the rules don't apply to him. It makes me wonder how many times he's used it for personal stuff and not reimbursed the county.
I don't actually have a problem with him going to a hostess bar (on his own dime), but the outside of that one looks really run down. Doesn't seem like someplace you would take a client.

No problem with me either - whatever floats your boat. Using a government card for that kind of entertainment? That's tax payers' money. Pay it back, fine, but why the cost in the first place?
It's so horribly wrong. Politicians in the UK have gone to prison for stuff like this. Maybe I just don't get it because of my background, but huh? Nearly $1000 was spent at a dodgy place by the mayor using a government credit card.
This is just so wrong.
Many of you guys ( glass house ) minds already in the Puritan's gutter. I suggest you stop thinking like that for the moment.
Billy is a real person. My dream is he comes out to say it was all to bust all you guys balls.

I think it's a Big Island Mayoral tradition to cost us money. At least Billy re-reimbursed his.
quote;
"HILO, Hawai'i — A car crash caused by former Mayor Harry Kim when he was in office will cost Big Island taxpayers $99,500, said the county attorney handling the case."

The lead editorial in today's Honolulu Star-Advertiser is calling for Billy and the county to come clean and release the rest of the withheld card transactions.

Oahu is only noticing because the "happening" was on Oahu.
If we had "hostess bars" on-island, this wouldn't even make the news.

Checked the Trib and there was nothing at all about it in the People/Entertainment section.
Assume the best and ask questions.
