Another agree with SBH. My Home Depot John Deere was a turkey. Stopped me from buying JD when it came time for a backhoe/loader, and went with Kubota instead. JD rep said JD doesn't actually make the little mowers, and that may be true, but they're still yellow and green.

Geochem, we got replacement mower decks for our John Deere from
www.rungreen.com. When we ordered the decks, they ran about $650 with free shipping. Since then, they have apparently raised their prices and now charge about $200 for shipping. So odds are you would be paying about half the cost of a new mower in any event. Your best bet might be craigslist locally.

Sad to say you may find one that the engine is shot, but somehow the mower deck is good on a complete tractor. Sad only in the fact you have a tractor carcass to take to the scrap yard, as price for the whole tractor may be cheap for the parts you need. All the decks seem pretty universal, just know how yours is mounted to the brackets on the deck and find one that matches. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions - guess the salvaged deck may be the only option. I bought the mower used and paid $650 for it then and already have about 4 years more on it - but I can watch the blades go round and round beneath my feet through the rusted out deck... May be time for a new mower.
