#11
embezzle it and high tail it back to the mainland

Didn't Orchidland go through exactly this just a few years ago?

I knew that gentrification would come to Puna eventually. I had no idea that they would try and start it within my lifetime, or worse yet specifically in my neighborhood.

We've got a lot in Orchidland... and I hear everyone complain about the roads (our lot is on a crappy one) but what do you expect for $85/year??? $200/year still seems like a bargain if stuff finally starts getting done.

Timing seems a bit off though. We still haven't gotten our road fee and I'm wondering what the turn around time will be.. Plus Prop tax bill just came in the mail.. so it's a double whammy.

"$200/year still seems like a bargain if stuff finally starts getting done."

The last time the fees were raised, nothing got done.

$200 if you only own one lot. Imagine if you bought several side-by-side lots many years ago because you wanted a buffer from the rooster farms or you have an AG operation. But you still only have 1 house and 1 car. So maybe your new road fees for your 10 lots is now $2000, and the neighbors across the street with 1 lot, 12 people living there with 6 cars only pay $200. Not so much a bargain anymore is it?

If you own 10 lots and cannot afford $200 per lot, you cannot afford to own 10 lots...

Now come on Dude...that's not fair.

Look at it this way. How much is it going to cost over 20 years? That's a big chunk of change. I'd be making sure this was a fair and legit by-the-book increase. I can't imagine fees going up by triple digits without acceptable explanation.

It is absolutely fair. What if I owned 100 lots? 1,000 lots? Would you still say it was unfair to me? Just ask any socialist Democrat in Hawaii. The more one makes/owns, the more "you can afford" to pay the taxes, right?

Missing aspect in the discussion thus far...

We should have the right to compile multiple parcels into one plot or TMK.

We should have the right to subdivide one parcel into multiple parcels.

If it is our land we should be able to do as we please (note: not proposing murder, abuse, or other unsavories applies in this context for all the nitpicking pantywads).

Ultimatey we should have a choice in this even if we don't happen to be a judge.

Try to just bring your own frontage up to a reasonable gravel standard and see what that costs.

He's not complaining about paying a fee, he's talking about unexpected increases, which dos seem unfair if it goes up 235%.

Just ask any rich Republican, they expect not to pay any taxes, and the richest are the worst! They whine even when it the extra percentage is of consequence or not, and finance politicians that have cut taxes to virtually the lowest their bracket has ever been.
