Hawaiian Acres

Hey Dave, we made it back last night. Wonderful trip as usual. About walking out, it is a short walk to 8 rd from your lot, from there about 3.5 miles to 11. I don't think you would have a problem getting a ride once you get to 8 rd. There is always someone hitch hiking. I need your address also to mail you a cd of pictures of your lot, our place and around Hawaii, but I will email you later about it. Scott

Hi neighbor, your lot is looking good, we went the handcleared way, but now are thinking about ripping an acre behind the house to give us some flat area. We are trying to get back out before the end of the year, but not sure. The weather here in Alabama has been wonderful all year.
Hey Dave, I hope everyone is well and that you guys still make it out this year.

Aloha, Scott

Whoa, Alabama? That's where I moved here from. I lived for 5 years in Huntsville and 5 years in Birmingham. It is a small world.

Aloha Forum Members,
Does anyone have any info on lot size and pricing in HA? We drove through it on our last trip and I really liked it although my husband thought it was "scary." I feel like I need at least an acre to have enough space and privacy. I heard HA was usually in 3 acre parcels. Any info would be much appreciated. Any safety issues we should be aware of if we buy/build in the Acres?

Mahalo,
Gloria

Aloha Gloria, I'll tell you what I know of The Acres. The vast majority of lots are 3 acres, their footprints measure approx 150'X 871'. There are also a few 3 acre lots that have been subdivided so you might find less acreage that way they are on B & E roads and there are also lots with 4+ acres down 9 road all the way to the end G road. Some lots provide mountain and ocean views from 2nd story buildings and some even have deep soil but I'm told most do not. The rainfall is substantial in this area but it makes the farming great. Flooding can be a concern in some areas so be advised and do your homework on that issue.

You should request a subdivision map from your realtor it really helps keeping track of where what is. You might sign yourself up with Pritikin realty He , Harry puts out a daily MLS report that is second to none IMO, it is tied directly to the Hawaii information Service. The TMK #s you would be looking at would be 3-1-6-13 through 61 for The Acres .

Hawaiian Acres also has one of the most successful community watch programs in Puna. It also boasts its own volunteer fire dept. There is a community website you might also check out at http://www.hawaiianacres.org also some nice photos to enjoy.

It appears there is a cool down in prices lately so now might be a good time to pursue your thoughts of owning there.

There are no covenants conveyances or restrictions in this area so that can be a good thing as well as a bad thing choose wisely nobody wants what they don't want next door if you know what I mean.

We choose The Acres because it seems centrally located to everthing on the east side and yet far enough away that urban sprawl should not be a consideration for many years to come if ever.

In closing I hopes this helps a little and I'm very curious what your husband found scary...Smile
