Unless the place has changed hands the owners live off island and have a long track record of stiffing employees and contractors in multiple business ventures on the Big Island. I know multiple people who worked for them over the years and regretted it. I doubt the owners are going to take any responsibility for what happened unless forced to by a court. In my mind, owners are ultimately responsible for the actions of their employees.

This afternoon I pulled into the alley to park behind Boogie Woogie to pick up a pizza. I was waved thru by a very red-eyed guy in a wheelchair parked in the alley next to the museum, chatting it up with others making it difficult and dangerous for me to drive by them with only inches of clearance. Still there when I left...annoying, inappropriate and dangerous. Who the heck parks himself in his wheelchair in an alley making it difficult for vehicle to get around him. Then I read this.

Thanks for that link kj.

I've been both homeless and been in the position to hire the homeless.. to fulfill a job obligation..

Some of the best .. most intelligent people I've met, are or have been homeless.. not everybody on the street is a bum.. any body that thinks otherwise ...is an idiot.

There's no parking behind Boogie Woogie Pizza. I think you mean you were going to park illegally behind the Pahoa Museum, right?
(It's posted prominently in simple language) But hey, If it's convenient for you...........

Annoying, inappropriate and dangerous!

What are you going on about snorkle? There is reserved parking with signs behind Boogie Woogie for it's customers, access from the alley only.

When you come out of thin air with strange accusations it's a reflection of your own shadows.

Its very disappointing to hear about violence like this happening in pahoa, especially to the homeless. Just a thought here but Maybe its time to walk the talk? The person or persons responsible for this or other homeless beat downs should walk with this area doctor to help bring awareness to our growing homeless issue.

According to a community policing officer in Pahoa, a very compassionate guy I might add, our homeless in Pahoa as a general rule are not dangerous. They are social alcoholics who would rather drink all day than have jobs. We assumed their lives have been so hard that's about all they can do. However the business owners in Pahoa seem to be fed up with the homeless. From cleaning up their messes to losing business from frightened customers.

It appears the bar manager clearly over-reacted with violence. Hopefully the Pahoa homeless will find a better place to party and sleep instead of on the boardwalk in front of the business establishments, many who struggle to stay open.

A shelter can't be that expensive, why haven't our politicians addressed this situation? Not only is it the humanitarian thing to do to care for the marginalized many who may be vets, it's also good for the tax base by not frightening tourists with disheveled drunks wandering around in need of a shower and fresh clothes.

Adequate shelters are way overdue around here.
