Hit & Run in Kalapana (8/3)
#11
Accidents like this seem to be increasing in Puna recently, maybe because of our population increase. A young woman was struck and killed by a vehicle on our highway near PPark 3 or 4 moths ago and now we have this hit and run. It may be pretty difficult to pin any negligence on the drivers who are committing these acts especially if they are driving on roads without proper lighting or simply drive away from the scene like nothing happened. jmo.

Hard not to remember this hit and run a decade or so ago.

The comments after the article are touching and exemplifies just how much pain these types of accidents can have here on the Big Island. Unfortunately, Our D.A at the time of this accident did not send much of a message for this type of driving negligence or behavior back then.

Thanks for that link, Kapoho Joe. There are a couple of extremely generous donations there. I hope he doesn't end up with a bill given the circumstances; helping someone out only to get severely injured by a coward who ran away.

I'm hoping the description of the vehicle involved will result in an arrest, there can't be too many people driving a light blue mini-van in Puna.
