Driving by on the way to the pool yesterday, I noticed that the Makuu Market (getting back to the thread topic) was getting a lot of new gravel put down in the market area, & it looked like the workers were really smoothing it down (even using a road roller)....so this looks like a very in-depth make-over....now for my dream of better looking stalls (I know, but it would be wonderful if they looked less like a FEMA tarp village, & more like a tropical Hawaiian market... I can dream...right.???)

Yes ... but I'll settle for not having to walk through inches of standing water every time it rains.

Driving by today, beautiful smooth gravel area & old pole frames going up (may have replaced some poles...but there are pink & yellow & duct-taped ones are still there...)

Oh well...I can dream, right
Nice bamboo roofs, using a resource (& hopefully labor) from on island:

Yesterday they were doing the entrance driveway with chip and seal.

entrance driveway with chip and seal

Did they use a licensed contractor?

Seriously, it would be useful to have a comparison for HPP's chip seal work, and the market driveway is a great real-world use case...

Did they call it roadway maintenance or improvement? Seriously... LOL

roadway maintenance or improvement?

Almost forgot! Did they get permits for the work, or is it true that they're considered a "Federal enclave" which is "not part of County"?

Yes and no.
Yes, it's gets lots of traffic.
No, it's one day, for 8 hours each week, and the speed limit when I've driven on it is about 2 mph. Of course, that approximates Orchidland 40th Street's speed limit, but probably not most roads in HPP.
