the other thing that works if no other option is have it sent to the fed ex office at the airport and then you pick it up there. with larger items it is the cheaper option. ups does this too. especially on dirt roads with no delivery

If your "street address" is not visible, their systems eventually "learn" that it can't be delivered, and they just leave the packages in the depot for you to pick up.

Except if you're not home they put it in a plastic bag and throw it over your gate.

The other reason to use your "street address PO box" is when you don't know how they are going to ship it. I've had people cancel my orders shipped to a PO Box because "they only use FedEx", so I place the order again and give them my physical address, and then they mail it, and the USPS returns it to them. Using the PO Box's physical address avoids all that.

I used to use Tucker's recommendation until my PO Box and physical address were in different zip codes, then it quit working.

FedEx has a service called SmartPost and UPS has a service called SurePost. In both of these services the shipment starts out as a FedEx or UPS shipment until it gets to your island, then its handed off to the post office for "last mile delivery". Many merchants won't accept PO boxes for either service, and at the same time, the post office won't deliver to your physical address. With these shipments, your only hope of getting the package delivered if you don't get mail to your house is to use either Tucker's method or the "post office street address" method.
