Hawai'i is the best state in America! proof

Brian Schatz says not to worry. DPRK isn't a very good at shooting missiles and probably couldn't hit us even if they tried.
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

"Given the history of Pearl Harbor, I don't think the U.S. will EVER let it be attacked again."

The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, ultimately we used 100% of our nuclear arsenal at the time on them. Of course the weapons we have now are more lethal by many magnitudes, a single US submarine is capable of destroying an entire continent. It's not so much about letting it be attacked... I guess Albert Einstein said it best, "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."

Along with having to travel through the national park to get to Puna and Hilo.
You say you can not wait to come to the 3rd world of Hawaii the Island .Vog n bug central where you will be living with mom.
Good luck GN.

First, reading comprehension is a good thing; I never said I was allergic to anything. :/ Second, Why do you hate Puna so much, and why not move? It's obvious you are unequivocally not happy where you're currently at. Ka'u district does not have the problems that Puna does, especially Discovery Harbor.

I'm sorry it's a third world country in Puna, but in D.H. we have streetlights, paved roads, everyone has county water hookups, the internet is at an acceptable speed, we don't get charged for road maintenance without actually receiving said road maintenance, there isn't a significant drug problem, also not a lot of homeless relative to other sub-divisions, we don't have helicopters flying over constantly, we aren't the ground zero for brain invading parasites, the list goes on.

I stayed in Ka'u for two weeks, and you know what? Ka'u is more connected to the world then the trailer park in Elfin Forest I grew up in, and when it rains, I can actually still drive out of the district! Back in Elfin Forest, when it rained, the little bridge out would get flooded and we'd be literally trapped. That is third world, when you can't even leave your sub-division because it's raining. [Big Grin]

Ka'u's population is the #2 smallest on the island, so all of the basic infrastructure can actually be depended on to continue, as there isn't the population density of Puna/South Hilo to wear it down. D.H. has Ka'u Hospital which recently was renovated and upgraded in the last few years, as well as Na'alehu for some shopping. You're right that it takes 62 miles to get anywhere besides Na'alehu though, and that's an hour and a half drive, three hours round trip, a long, long drive. I'm not looking forward to that drive, but eh, I have a 2,256 sq foot house and a rentable, permitted Ohana, so I'll deal with it. [8D]

Ka'u is bug central, but it's not slug central, and in two weeks I didn't encounter a single centipede, even when I went randomly exploring through the high grass like an idiot. There are plentiful big cane spiders, I came across two in two weeks! One in my bathroom, one on the porch, trying to get inside. As for the vog, I was there for two weeks, spent the last week mostly in Ka'u, actually! You know what's weird? I consider the air in Ka'u way cleaner than California air. I literally did not even notice the vog.

Is there something in Hilo that's not in Kailua-Kona? Why would I ever want to drive to Hilo? Costco is in Kona. The majority of the beaches are in Kona. It rains way less in Kona... So, why wouldn't I always go to Kona? Also, why would driving through the Volcano National Park be a negative? I visited that place, it was completely awesome, I loved all of it.

On the contrary, we have quite a bit of the same problems, and even some of our own.
These districts are pretty big, and depending on where you are within one, it's like a whole new world.

It's not wise to compare what is basically a snow-bird subdivision to one of the most beautiful and unique districts in all of the state. It's also bad form to go on "Puna" web and then badmouth the area to its residents. A good bit of homes in DH are empty through the summer months and squatting is not uncommon there. There is also at least one known ice house in DH.

There are places in Ka'u that this would hold true as well.

The infrastructure here is not like it is on the main land. Our utilities are above ground - even the water lines run along the side of the road in plastic piping. A single car accident can easily take out all of the power, as well as water.

I think you misread something somewhere.
DH has no hospital. Pahala does... but it's hard to even call it a "hospital".
Naalehu has no shopping. There's a hardware store, a gas station, and a filipino market - that's pretty much it.

It is! The air here is nice and clean. Not as clean as the east side of lower Puna, which is reportedly the cleanest air in the United States, there's even an air quality testing station in Kapoho I believe.
If you never noticed vog here, then you must not have driven around much. Aside from Naalehu through Waiohino, it can settle in quite heavily throughout the rest of the district.

Less traffic, less congestion, better prices, less tourism.
I find the idea of shopping for the basics difficult at Costco. Those of u that shop there, only do so once every few months. The rest we get from the local stores.
Let's not forget, the drive into Kona is horrible. The drive to Hilo is pretty much a straight shot.

You'll learn these things when you get here.
On a side note - I think you have struck a nerve with Mrs Mimosa, I've never seen here like this with anyone in all the years I've lurked here.

I think you rubbed Mrs Mimosa the wrong way and now she's yanking your chain hard. Just laugh along and grow that skin a bit thicker.

Driving to Kona is a chore. I go there maybe once every two years and never via the south route. I'll go to Costco if/when they open in Hilo, not before.

I'm more worried about the other nutcase affecting the big island than the other nutcase in NK

Having a strong dislike or aversion to something is an informal definition of allergic, so that statement fits.

Palanakonu made several good points. One of my concerns with a move to DH would be access to a decent grocery store. Ocean View is probably the place to go.
