It looks like attempted suicide death

Were they in an enclosed area without a way to retreat?

From the news article, I would say yes:

As officers were attempting to exit their vehicle, the 4-Runner suddenly reversed at a high rate of speed ramming the front end of the police Chevy Tahoe and knocking one officer out of the vehicle. It then began moving back and forth creating force to violently ram the police vehicle numerous times. The suspect’s continuing course of action placed two officers who were then on foot and in close proximity in great danger of being hit or run over.

The driver was out of control. The police didn't know what she was capable of, or what she might do next. If the police guess wrong, they might be killed not by a one ounce bullet, but by a 3000 pound car.

Were the cops being shot at?

No, but there's more than one way to kill a person. Following your logic, if the suspect was ramming the police with her car, should the police only be allowed to respond by ramming her with their cars? Possibly injuring the passenger in the suspect's car in the process?

Even if there's no dash cam video, it shouldn't be too difficult to determine what took place by the visible damage on the vehicles, dents, scraped paint, etc.

Hawaiian Beaches is plagued with ice heads.. there is no rationalizing with them at all. It's time for a good sweep around the neighborhood. These are only the incidents that make it to the news, but in reality it's happening (violence), on a daily basis.
I grew up knowing to obey police officer's commands. No buts, no attitude. If you have nothing to hide, no need to ram them with your car. Just saying.

Come on.. are you willing to shoot some lady that is angry and banging into your car?

If that happened in England the lady would be alive. It is our gun laws that killed her. It is our obsessive use of guns that killed her. It is criminal that she is dead and I hope the cop is held accountable.

Stolen vehicle. Fake license plates. Warrants for the woman's arrest. Aggression towards the arresting officers...They didn't even wound the passenger... GOOD JOB for the police this time!

I have heard it’s very bad there from several residents. Stories that are almost hard to believe. At what point are the vigilantes gonna start up, since the police don’t seem to be taking care of it? Unless the addicted start playing bumpers cars with the cops.

I wonder what the passenger has to say?

I’m glad everyone knows whether or not the shooting was righteous or not. I wasn’t there so I don’t know...

[:0]That's the toughest looking woman I've ever seen. If she walked my way with that attitude, adrenaline would be pumping to the max.

Incomprehensible to me that someone would do that to the cops without expecting to be shot.

There is rarely justification for using deadly force as a first option even in a threatening circumstance. Police are to be trained for measured or appropriate responses in high stress situations such as this. The description of the events suggest that the police had options they chose not to utilize, including letting the vehicle leave the scene.

Puna is a small community with a limited road network. The vehicle was not likely to escape police surveillance . Additionally, shots fired at the tires ( given the inferred accuracy of the shooters) would have vastly reduced risk to the public, the police, and the perpetrator ( I. M. O. in that order'of importance)

I'm not shedding tears for this particular deceased, I'd just like to see some demonstrative benefits from the increased police budgets.....so that when there is a mistake there isn't an irreversible loss.

I typically give the police the benefit of doubt but this one seems fishy. Folks sleep down there in vehicles all the time. That particular spot, I saw it taped off and surrounded by cops this AM driving by,its a spot that often has a tent or folks hanging out camping in vehicles.

There's only enough room for one vehicle to enter and exit at a time and it's about 80' deep and 30' wide plus closer to the shoreline.
I could see a woman freaking out if someone pulled up behind her there without using proper cop lights illuminated to identify themselves.
Don't know the details but if they didnt use their colored lights to identify themselves... I can jnderstand the instict to wuickly back up and ram the rear blocking vehicle.

Let's see what happens, if the passenger reveals any answers. They had a large crime investigation team out there this morning, all new matching unmarked white vehicles, including what appeared to be a forensics equipped van (The side door was open).

Isn't in time that the police here joined the modern world and have dashcams and bodycams? It means money has to be spent, but clearly, that's offset by justice being done as we have seen in several mainland cases.
