Luquin's "very close" to opening
#11
it's everyone's business when we have a local government so inept

It's also way past "why do I even bother" -- I'm not sure if the problem is that "nobody cares", or if it's simply that the machine is so well-entrenched that it doesn't matter what anyone does. End result is the same either way: get a County job, or move away when it gets too expensive to live here.

The new Luquin's location housed Chefs for Hawaii during the eruption beginning early May. This non-profit prepared tens of thousands of meals to evacuees. The parent organization, World Central Kitchen rented the space from Sal for three months and used it until August. Substantial work was done to the kitchen and the whole thing needed to be reinspected; it wasn't just about the urinal.
Certainty will be the death of us.

I tried to explain to the nabob, part of what happened, but he or she is not from PUNA or they would have quit posting when I posted my explanation.

It perfectly describes Kalakoa !

We get it that he lives on a dirt road !

It still took way too long. Unfortunately his negativism is firmly based in reality.

Maybe this urinal can be the "Wall Drug" of Puna? They can setup road signs all over the island "Only 100 miles to the urinal worthy of a years-long permitting process!" to hype up the suspense. I bet this would even be worthy of a bathroom attendant to do crowd control when he's not handing out paper towels and offering cologne and gum next to the tip jar.

This could be the urinal that puts Luquin's on the map and maybe even it's own wikipedia page.

the "Wall Drug" of Puna?

Excellent idea terracore!
I would only suggest that there's some local version of a jack-a-lope included.

Perhaps a form of the newly mythical Puna-lope, or even better a Jack-an-ass, with the head of a Hawaii County building department employee, and the back end of a donkey, situated in a diorama of the feral beast peering over blueprints of a men's bathroom. If stuffed and motionless, it could only add to the authenticity of the display.

Today is the day.

I think it will be a "small" experience compared to the old place. No drive thru. No outdoor seating.

Debating whether to give it a week (while they get the kinks out?) or not. It certainly could be full up a lot of the time. Who knows...?

Cheers,

Do you mean they are open, or just that they have a permit for the urinal?
