you will have to pay 9% CA sales tax
Do you then get to pay GET on top of that?
haven't found a cheap enough 24v (30+v) charger
That's what happens when you leave 12V-land...
I was about to recommend the cheap Iota clone from Amazon but they're more expensive than the genuine Iota.
Iota has a thing about not honoring their warranty "outside the US". Whatever solution you get, mount it in a wooden cabinet to mitigate the condensation -- I didn't, so my Iota DLS55 burned out after a couple of years.

I have one of them. I haven't used it much at all. I'm just trying to run it a bit so I can change the first oil. I've never had a little generator before.
Pros: It is quiet and light. It starts easily. It puts out 119AC under no load and about 15DC. The voltages stay pretty steady.
I haven't done any electrical calculations to predict what it should run. I do know it won't run my Rival electric tea kettle, but it's 1500W. It will just barely run my 7.5A Dewalt Reciprocating Saw (sawsall) and my 7.8A Dewalt 1/2" Hammer Drill, if I start them slowly and allow it to power up. Otherwise the overload protection will shut it off. It doesn't always power up in time. That's if it's on economy mode. If not on economy mode it doesn't power up at all and the overload protection just shuts it off. I would have thought when not on economy mode it would run on high. Not so. It seems to run a tad faster on economy even with no load. Maybe that's all par for a generator of this size. I don't know.
It has one standard 120AC outlet. It also has one 12V outlet. It's a two pole outlet I'm not familiar with. Kind of an L shape outlet (l_). It comes with one set of pig tails that have motorcycle battery size battery clips. I called and they'll sell another set for $15 shipped. I'll do that if I can't find a like kind plug so I can make up my own set with a cig lighter plug and maybe one for USB.
The set has a primer bulb which is unfortunate. I asked about that when I called because they don't last. They currently have them in stock and didn't know if any other more common bulbs, like Ryobi or Echo, would fit. Oh well. Oh yeah, the manual says it takes 7.5 OZ of oil but it doesn't fill it. If you call they'll tell you to add 10.5 OZ, to fill it up into the filler like most other similar small engines.
Telephone tech support is surprisingly in O'Fallon Mo. They answer rapidly and transfer to their tech help person who tries but doesn't know much. They promise to check and get back to you with answers and do.
I'm wanting to use it for camping stuff. I'm hoping I can find a smaller electric kettle that draws little enough to work, if such is made.
I hope that helps.

Diagonal prongs at 45 degrees?
a smaller electric kettle
1. Immersion heater;
2. Kettle imported from Japan via eBay.

Diagonal prongs at 45 degrees? Yes.
Definitely light weight 12g type. The outlet is labeled as 12V 4A (which would be perfect for USB. It puts out 15V), nothing like as heavy duty as any 120V type plug would be. The plug doesn't have anything useful written on it.

"Do you then get to pay GET on top of that?"
I've only done one such purchase, almost 2 years ago, and I paid CA sales tax, no GET.
When you order things to be shipped to Hawaii in the store that they "don't ship to Hawaii", they can only ship things that go through their "California Warehouse". Not everything falls into that category, so think of it like going to Vegas.
"It will just barely run my 7.5A Dewalt Reciprocating Saw (sawsall)"
900 watts is above the rated power of 800, I'm surprised it runs it at all. I don't have any experience with inverter generators, but my experience with inverters is that unless you lay down some money the "peak" voltage is only available for a few milliseconds.
"It seems to run a tad faster on economy even with no load"
They must have wired the switch in reverse. On my unit it runs at about 50% on "econony" and instantly goes faster when economy mode is off.
I haven't done any voltage or watt tests with mine. I bought it for a ~500 watt load and it handles it without difficulty in either mode.

If anybody cares. It appears the DC outlet on the little generator is the same as that on the small Hondas. Nope, not it. I'll be getting one I'll be cutting into the one that came with it and adding some cord and jacks from old dead Battery Tenders laying about and putting a motorcycle type cig lighter outlet on it that I can switch out with the alligator clips.

I use this when I want to run USB devices off a ryobi battery, it might help in your application and you won't have to cut anything.
ETA: The one I have is no longer in stock, but it's like this:

I used a buck converter like this on my old 12v system:

They are pretty efficient and have a high voltage tolerance.

If it's just USB I need,a cig adapter with a 12/24v auto USB adapter does the trick and you can get one for a few dollars.

Hey, I agonize over every watt-hour! It's what allows my significant other to then leave unused lights and fans on all day consuming them...
