Septic tanks - permits
#11
Actually the engineer does all of the paper work and files for the permit.

Anyone in the know on the actual construction/installation? I have "heard" it needs to be a licensed septic installer. However, I'm also aware that the materials are all available in Hilo, and there are plenty of people who will dig a hole for you. Is this plan doable:

1. Pay engineer to design system and pull permit.
2. Buy a septic tank and drainfield materials myself
3. Pay "a guy" to dig the hole.
4. Install the septic tank and drainfield myself (done it before on mainland).
5. Get it inspected and signed off by (I'm assuming) a county inspector?

More to the point, do I need to get the signature of a "certified installer" on the paperwork at some stage?

Your engineer (yes, use Paul @ Atlas) has to sign off on the installation to close out the permit (prior to the backfill).  I would recommend Nick Moore (Moore Excavation), who has the proper license.  He and Paul work well together.

I'll second Nick Moore.
