Swat mostly. My niece uses Deet every time she goes outside, but after living in the rainforest awhile, I don't really notice the bites anymore except my eyebrows and ears. They pretty much disappear after dark.

They don't disappear... they head to my place and just lurk outside waiting to bite me.[:o)]
I was looking at the CHIRP website and this "Safe Haven" for Coqui's seems even more strange once I visited the site. They have even sent letters off to Lingle asking for more protection for the damn frogs.[V] I wonder who funds this Coqui Hawaiian Integration and Research Project... As these frogs are definitely not from Hawaii. ------- My Blog

As far as mosquitos go, we have the trade winds because we are on the ocean, but we bought some "King Coils" and use them on the lanais and they seem to work really well for the residual mosquitos and gnats that were bugging my husband. They burn all night too. We have an open air sleeping room with a Thai Bed and my husband was getting bites at night. We put two coils at the entrance to the room and did not get a bite all night. He is very light skinned and they seem to go for him far more than me. [8D]

Mr Singer is quite an eccentric fellow, he seems to also have something against beds and believes bras can cause cancer.
Indeed, to each his own but I hope he's careful: http://hawaii.gov/hdoa/pi/pq/coqui "What happens if someone is caught with coqui? Any person or organization who intentionally transports, harbors or imports with the intent to propagate, sell, or release the coqui is in violation of State law and may be charged with a class C felony and subject to a minimum fine of $50,000 and maximum fine of $200,000, plus 3 years in prison."

I've done a lot of reading on the net about these things. I read a couple of reports on studies where they trapped critters and examined stomach contents. Rats and mongooses don't eat that many coquis and coquis don't eat that many mosquitos.
Supposedly mosquitos stick sort of close to the ground, so if you build a house elevated on stilts you get fewer mosquitos inside. Has to be 10' up or so, I think.

The coquis HAVE to be eating something... wonder what it is??? Otherwise, they would not be able to survive or thrive as they have.
