I'm late in responding to this thread, but there is a Web page with data from air quality monitors on the Big Island (and the other islands).
Hawai`i Air Quality monitors
There are two monitors near Pahoa, one in Mt. View, one in Hilo, one in Pahala, and one in Kailua.
Then, of course, there are two monitors in the park: Jaggar Museum and Visitor Center.

Click on the "More Data" and "Advisories" tabs for readings for the day.
