LOL... I like it.

For what it is worth I don't even live there but get such a good vibe from Hilo and Puna. Are you unhappy on the east side? Just wondering why the wanderlust.

hpp4me has expressed wanting to travel something like 50% of the time after moving here. Might not be a bad thing to look in a dry area. The wet areas require more home maintenance in my experience.

If I wanted to travel that much (COULD travel that much), I think I'd get a condo and if it were nice enough I'd do the vacation rental thing instead of a house with a caretaker. Better yet, buy an established vacation rental ... you need a lockable area for your personal stuff though.

The worst thing about Seaview Circle is if you have to go on to the main road with a stick shift!

Other people want to make friends- I just want to make money.

You've got a good memory! We are actually building a place in SE Asia and will be spending a fair amount of time there. We may not give up our mainland home in retirement, either.

My only concern about the East Side is poor healthcare. The one certainty of retirement is illness will eventually strike.

The vacation home idea is on the list. In fact, there are places on the ocean in HPP for under $300,000 with waterviews that might work. A few years ago they would have been twice as much. For example,

Yep. Several times. The B.I. is our favorite island.

Generally the health care is similar for each side of the island since folks drive from one side to the other for various reasons. A doctor visit is just as valid a reason to drive to Kailua Kona as is a trip to Costco. However, if you needed emergency care or daily care, then it might make a difference. Actually, if health care is a concern, then the Oahu side of the islands might be a better choice.

Comparing Puna to Kona is not even as close as comparing apples to oranges, I don't think the two areas are even in the same food group as far as comparisons go.
