The thieves are everywhere, just open your eyes and look and you will probably see one in action.

What really ticks me off is in the end we all get the privilege of paying for them being thieves.

And please, don't anyone even ask me to try and put myself in their sorry shoes. Most any one of us have at some point in our lives been broke and down and out, but most of us don't resort to stealing.

Ok, I am done ranting now.

kani-lehua,

Are these thieves being caught? It's not clear to me if you mean they were caught or just getting away with their thieving. I didn't notice any security at Foodland although that doesn't mean there isn't any. Just curious.

As others have mentioned this costs us all more money, so hope something is being done about it.

KathyH - not sure if Foodland in Keaau is worth driving to if you don't want to deal with the highway (and I understand that). I think Safeway is still better but Foodland is a huge improvement on the previous store. I no longer see it as a last resort if I have to go shopping.

Thanks Tom. I like Foodland in Waimea, used to shop there all the time, so I would enjoy shopping at one on this side. Thus my envy. Safeway is definitely more convenient for me because I live north of Hilo.

Is the Kea'au Foodland significantly different from SacknSave in Hilo? They seem to be part of the same company, even offering the same specials in some of their ads IIRC.

Cheers,

They seem to be the same to me, right down to their Huli Huli chickens! I'm sure I can get the same things for the same quality and prices now in Keaau. Great alternative for those of us who live on this side of Keaau.

sack n save, foodland, whaler's village and malama market are all part of the sullivan family of companies. product/merchandise mix within these separate entities are comparable. hopefully, the new kea'au store will have the olive bar when it's deli opens. something of which is not offered at either malama market or sack n save.

tomk: yes, the thieves are being caught. you may not notice security's presence because they're in plain clothes and "blend" in. true for most of the other grocers and retailers.

Thanks for the clarification, Kani-lehua, I'm glad the scumbags are being caught.

Went in early Sunday and was glad to see the Hilo Coffee ladies promoting their product. Their coffee is our favorite and one reason we continued to shop at Puna Fresh. Good to see Foodland invited them back.
