Walmart flour
#11
You will live, in fact the USDA does have permissible bug part limits in the foods we eat (OK GROSS... but true!)

If the larvae is in the flour, you will see more hatched out little brown beetles, that is all. Not appetizing, and enough will destroy the quality and taste of the flour (read the linked page) but not deadly. Best to call WalMart & return the unused portion.

WalMart should be alerted that they may have flour beetles, as this can also spread in their store - very not good for them... another reason I do not understand their new store layout with pet food in close proximity to pantry products... I always learned that was a no-no...

Devany - A quick word of caution - in the U.S., plastic formulated for food product storage must be made from virgin and clean recylced materials (strange to think about, when the base product is crude oil... but the US does have these standards), for non-food grade plastics, recycled products can be utilized, including those that may have handled non-food & hazardous materials... be sure that the materials you are using are food grade (there are suppliers of food grade pails..)

nothing to do with walmart, but we've had problems with dog biscuits from dell's twice. the second time we bought them, we opened the box and there they were. returned it immediately for a "new" box.

the beetles are definitely not harmful or deadly. just think of yourself being on an adventure with adrew zimmern. it's so bizzare (foods)! [:p]

Thanks Carey, I use a liner, but I use the flour so fast, I really don't think that any contamination would happen that quickly. I do have restaurant Rubbermaid flour bin that holds 100# but it does not seal well enough for me, so I use it in my studio. I probably should look into some food grade buckets and use the lids I have invested in (They are $13 each, but make it so easy to use.) Costyouless has the containers for dogfood, I have one and they have the twist lids on them. They say they can be used with food... I should read more closely. I think that the large size is $39.

StillHope, I should have said this the first time, but I would never buy bread flour at Walmart in any case. I would buy it a natural food store myself, and get better flour, but Safeway would be my second choice.

ETA, Walmart's return policy is very good, like I said. They don't exchange the items. They give you your money back.

I'm wondering if the flour came from Communist China.

With Sprinkles??? My favorite!

Won't the bread loaves be protein loaves? (are beetles really MEAT??? - I mean fish has it's own title.... so should the insects!)

I dunno about the protein, but I'm guessing they're high fiber.
