18 year old running for Puna house seat
#11
As I said, good luck to him and go vote for him if you want but he won't get my vote.
I can't risk voting for someone who believes even 1% of what his father advocates.

He doesn't have to "trash" his father, just let people know he's his own man. He chooses to not do so.
I draw my own conclusions from that.

I find it interesting that his dad is never out there campaigning with him. Rather than give him the benfit of the doubt, unless he goes out of his way to say fighting invasive species is a high priority and that mangroves must be eradicated from Puna, I can't see considering voting for him. And not being aligned with either party means he'd be powerless and irrelevant in the legislature. Good for him for running though.

Tom says:

Maybe this is his saving grace, not being aligned with the good old boy’s gives him the power to say “no way, not in my district”. Wouldn’t that be refreshing, can you envisage the possibilities that it could bring to “our” district, instead of just rubber stamping the “PARTY’S” expectation. The way politic are being run today it looks like only the independent and bipartisan have any chance to change things. I like Tony but I’m now leaning towards this kid.

So I don't have a dog in this fight (hmm...need to find a better saying in the post Michael Vick era), but since there has been a lot of discussion about Solomon's independence from his parents, I'm happy to say he has cleared it up for us on the record in today's Tribune Herald Election Guide.

And I quote: "When you vote for me you get much more than a bright , eager, honest, open-minded 18 year old horse trainer, airplane pilot, sustainability expert, inventor, beekeeper, ham radio operator and alternative energy wiz (sic). You also get my parents, who advise me and who home-schooled me on our self sufficient farm and nature preserve here in Puna. What I lack in experience and knowledge, my mom and dad make up for."

So apparently, it's a package deal...so vote accordingly (either in favor of or against..)

I'm glad he's cleared that up! That means his parents are fair game now. I'll see what I can find. If I remember correctly, his father thinks bras cause cancer and lying down to sleep is bad for you. I'll try to find links. And of course he thinks invasive species are some type of blessing for Hawaii.

Bras and breast cancer:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dressed_to_Kill_(book)
"A survey of the MEDLINE/PubMed database revealed no published scientific studies supporting a link between bra wearing and breast cancer risk.[14] Furthermore, no scientific publications were found which were authored by Singer or Grismaijer.[14]"

Sleeping:

Do we want to elect someone who will be the laughing stock of the legislature? You can bet he'll use his position to promote his father's delusions, just as he did at the candidate forum.

Not that I don't trust KeaauRich, but I did pull out my Tribune Herald "You Decide 2010" and his quote is pretty telling.

Also, I was looking for more actual information on Solomon's campaign handouts at the Makuu Market, but there really wasn't anything that detailed his positions on anything. How do you want to increase business in Puna? Coupons for local stores are pretty cool, but that's not enough. I do like that he's at the market on Sunday's and I wish some others were there to talk also.
See you in the surf

If you haven't already read about his bizarre antics at the Malama O Puna forum, you should. http://www.bigislandchronicle.com/?p=16758 He and his family's advocacy of having invasives destroy our native environment and kill off all the species involved it is criminal in my book. You couldn't pay me to vote for him.
