If memory serves a eu2000i has a rating of 1800 watts 2000 watt surge.
Half horse power motors draw around 6 amps or 720 watts - well within the envelope.
Extrapolating a 1 1/2 hp motor would draw 2160 watts - well outside the envelope.

The "inrush current" required to start an AC motor is in the range of 5-10x the nominal run rate -- until it starts spinning, the coils are basically a dead short.
AC motor startup is very painful with modified-sine inverter power; a pure-sine power source or DC motor is a better fit for off-grid applications.

Royal has a 1hp pump, so how would the math work for that?

To add to the equation, I have to have power to my UV light when ever the pump is running too, I don't contaminate the house with untreated water. Yes, I do drink my catchment water
I've wish I'd have run untreated water to the toilets like I did for the hose bibs. No sense running filtered water to a hose bib or toilet. Not that ambitious to change it now! LOL

If you can get under the house and it's single story it shouldn't be too difficult. Nor would diverting the gray water to the garden.

My uv system draws 18 watts - almost nothing - check you data plate.
The Honda 2000 will turn 1/2 and 1 hp table saws and drill presses without hic ups for me - check the data plates - I run the Eu series at about 80% of rated load ( 80% of 1800 watts continuous rating)- keeps the carbon deposits down.
If you want torque (turning & starting effort)and big loads diesel generators hard to beat - I like the northern lights / alaska diesel products.
Starting effort is directly related to flywheel size - that is where the kinetic energy is stored in generators - the bigger the flywheel - the less it will be dragged down by starting loads.

How far is the water pump from the generator. You may be able to solve your problem but running a larger gauge wire.10 instead of 12 or 14.Big voltage loss on a long run will drag the generator down.

wire size - a good point the 100$ extension cords hurt - but worth it
set the "eco" switch to off as well - you want to spin up the generator before putting a big load on it - saves the windings

I like this thread too!
12voltonly listed dc tv's and microwave ovens. Would appreciate any recommendations? there's some reviews on amazon but won't replace the iphone anytime soon. but i rather have 12v tv!
