Paul - there are plenty of direct flights from east Asia to Europe. Going via Hawaii is not a good option unless you want to visit Hawaii or the US west coast on the way.

Tom - I wasn't making myself clear; I meant via the North Pole, not via Hawaii.
You're right, there are direct flights, and I see (via gcmap.com) that it would be longer via the North Pole. HNL-LHR would be quickest via Northern Greenland. Only something like HNL-HEL would go over the Pole.

Funny...read your posts then moved on to read some news. First article I pulled up was this one. 19hours non-stop, ending soon. Interesting read.
http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/19/travel/wor...?hpt=hp_c3 Also, I've flown two different routes in the 16 hour range. Dhahran to JFK and LAX to Singapore. When you sleep a full shift and eat through 3 meals, it is a long flight, But I did like them better than layovers. Nowadays the flights mainland to Hawai'i are plenty long enough. [^]

KLm flies a 747 (more seat room) non stop lax to amsterdam everyday at 2pm (flight 602 if I remember right)- more often than not I just buy a united or hawaiian round trip from ito and take the 10 hr hop to ams - puts one right in the hub of euro flights at 11am for the last leg if needed. I think they partner with delta if needed.....miles and transfer etc
