We use one of these:

Can be set to motion detection, and it texts your phone a picture of what the video is capturing.

Do any of these systems allow for long distances between the house and driveway entrance? I'm thinking that kind of distance would require a radio and a standalone power system, otherwise you'd have very long wire runs.

It seems like a nice electric fence zapper would help. Why stop with just taking their picture? There are so many things now that are possible. I try not to think diabolical thoughts but it is hard not to feel some deep down hatred for thieves once you have lost a lot of things you really cared about.

It is easy to start hating them, but remember you are still liable for the safety of intruders, particularly if you leave some kind of device while you're not there. For instance, automatic guns or traps are totally illegal. I don't know about electrified fences. If they are lethal, then you would no doubt be liable for any death or injury. Basically I think it's a very good idea to steer clear of any measure beyond setting off an alarm and taking pictures/video. That's enough to deter most intruders. If you are personally on-site and feel threatened, then of course that's a different matter.

Thanks Carey for pointing out I am behind the times.I did a lot of research a few years ago for a community security system and a quality system was very expensive.
I see now that a quality system is much cheaper and the resolution is much better.

A police office once told me that the best defense is light.Thieves are like cockroaches and they run from light.Motion detector lights can do a lot to scare people off.A surveillance camera will record them hauling your stuff off.

We were planning on a high quality system to record everyone who enters or leaves our neighborhood. With the new pricing we can go forward with upgrading our present system.

The links you provided are to low def systems that are almost useless.
