There is such a day/night difference between Hilo and Pahoa, Hilo being day and Pahoa being night. These list and survey sites are there for making lists and surveys. Social media has become so brainless that it needs to seek out semi-statistical lists and surveys to determine if it is fitting within whatever new normal is forming. Hilo is on a list to vote on as most happy coastal town, being done by Coastal Living magazine. It is media manipulation but there is no doubt, there is a tangible feeling of relaxation and good vibes in a nice coastal town.

Ditto lavalava. "Danger" and "safety" are VERY relative concepts. Friends and family back east often read these ridiculous lists and my reply is always
"Hahahaha. Ok!"

If you spend 10 minutes reading the headlines about what is happening on the mainland, shooting galleries, racers blocking the freeway for their own races, some real psycho depravity stuff like dad sits on kid to keep him quiet (kills him), teenage girl kills mother and new boyfriend, crashes with 50 to 100 cars becoming common place, and so on...
List makers, please keep making Hawaii one of the most dangerous places to live on Earth, so move any where else and you will be safer. Anywhere else, move there, it is going to be safer. Think of the chil'ren. "Aloha also means goodbye. Aloha!"

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that Ted's recent, on-a-bender, posts are becoming more and more "tilting" ?

Tired of the needless, elementary school name calling always and all ways.

I just spent 36 days on the mainland and only felt really safe and relaxed when I returned to my home in the 2nd most dangerous town in Hawaii, where the quiet can be deafening! These lists, which seem to come out with enough regularity to weed out the weaker stomached adventure seekers, never cease to put a smile on my face. I spent the majority of my stay in a very nice neighborhood with walking trails, sidewalks, large paved streets, home mail delivery, etc. Yet I heard the neighbors every time they started a car, drove by, and every plane that flew overhead. The noise was never, ever ending except for a few brief hours in the middle of the night. The theft in the Houston area encompassed most of every news cast and no idea how many murders, 28 on Christmas day alone! This is mainland "civilization"?!
It is true that we do seem to have more than our fair share of rippers and scumbags but at least here in the 2nd most dangerous town most of the crime I am aware of is not on strangers of the victims but so called friends or loved ones. Guess the key is know who you are living with and be picky about your friends. Good idea anywhere. |
