Lasik on island? Insight on Costco vision center?
#21
I just got my eyes done last week here in Wisconsin in anticipation of my Hawaii move. I researched options with that in mind and thinking of future. I found the Lasik Vision Institute is located on Oahu if I ever needed a touch up so I won't have to fly mainland. I highly recommend them! I am so happy I did them! I was motivated by my 1 eyed walk back from Shipmans Beach in March. Figured my life may one day depend on me being able to see the trails out there! My total for both eyes and all the bells and whistles was $3100 here in Wisconsin. They were doing a groupon sale too! I wish I would have done this years ago. My eyes were -4.00 in both with astigmatism. Left was 20/20 the day after and the right eye was right behind!

I'm guessing they refer to Lasik Vision Institute. If they work with them you may be able reduce your trips to Oahu with going to them for the check ups. So far there have been 4 appointments, my consultation, prescans, surgery day and post-op check up next day. Tuesday is my 2 week check up and appointment 5!

It appears the "terracore luck" also applies to Costco. My contact lenses disappeared into the ether and they explained that "we have no idea what happened" and that they would research and get back to me. No research. No getting back to me. I'll continue calling them and stopping by when I'm in Kona until I get an answer, or contacts, or a refund. At this point I'm regretting not paying an extra $20 and getting them online from somewhere else.

The glasses I received from them, are every bit as good as the ones I ordered online from elsewhere delivered to Hilo for a fraction of the Costco cost.

ETA: added "from elsewhere"

Are you sure you haven't been placed on the government's "no deliver" list?

Costco called me today and told me my contacts were available for pickup.

I got a letter today from 39dollarglasses.com informing me that all my personal information and credit card number was stolen from their web site.

Hawaii Vision Specialists in Hilo is getting a LASIK machine. They said they will be doing LASIK surgery by the end of this year.

I think I'd give them a few months to work out all the kinks on that one...

Like our buses it's probably an old Oahu "hand me down". But you're right I'd let them work the bugs out first...

Here's a (fear mongering or real?) article about the dangers of LASIK linked at the bottom. Long story short, I have at least temporarily found my vision salvation through a newer product called Cooper Vision Biofinity Multifocal soft contact lenses. I asked the optometrist "how do they work?" a few times and each time he gave varying versions of "It's a new technology." So I'm guessing they are made out of kittens or something. Whatever the case I have farsightedness and nearsightedness and these cat embryo (or whatever) lenses allow me to magically see again 20/20 both distance and up close without having to fry my corneas or anything.
