Nope the advent of weighted dispensing have been around for a very long time.
As far as I know, the gas pump dispenses by volume rather than mass/weight. Gas stations price gasoline and diesel by the gallon(volume), rather than in grams(weight).
Which will cause more gasoline to condense inside the same volume, with lower temperature.
Its a good point to check out and verify.

Consumer Reports has researched this, and while the basic physics in the theory are correct, any savings are miniscule. That's mainly because nearly all gasoline sold is stored in underground tanks where the temperature is far more constant than the air. Read about it here:

Probably more useful to pay attention to the inspection stickers; some of these pumps haven't been checked in years, and it's really not clear what the color codes mean.

Yesterday I bought gas at the Shell station in Keaau. $5.35 a gallon for regular. I thought, hasn’t the price of crude oil been on a steady decline lately? Today oil is down to $82 a barrel.
Can’t blame the independent gas stations for that anomaly.
Can’t blame the politicians.
Are the usual suspects just too obvious?

There is a big lag in the price of fuel in Hawaii because of shipping time.

There was no lag in raising gas prices when the oil prices went up. Prices started rising immediately, within days, while Big Island gas stations were still getting deliveries from the storage tanks at Hilo harbor. Oil companies have been one of the few making huge profits during the economic downturn.

I paid $4.729 at Big Island Energy this afternoon.
It's an easy process, and free to get an account there. Sometimes they are cheaper than Costco and without the 2 hour drive.
They aren't always the cheapest in Hilo (not sure what the secret sauce is) but they almost always are. You can apply for an account online. There is no way to pay at the pump without an account, but I've read on gasbuddy one can buy a pre-paid card at their office if you want to buy gas without getting an account. They don't accept credit cards. It's one of the schemes they use to keep their prices low. Not paying merchant fees.

I am in California right now, and though prices have come down, that is still a lot cheaper than California’s ridiculous prices. I paid about $150 to fill up a diesel pickup, in California, yesterday. Ouch!
