Converter box working for you?
#21
The garage of my house has an enormous television antennae on it. I have never tried it, but there it is. Trying it out is on my to do list.

Digital Television for Hilo Area
On January 15, 2009, all Hilo area analog television transmitters (except Hawaii PBS) will shut down. There will be some changes in channels and locations, both at the time of transition and after the date of transmission. These are noted. Because there will be channel changes after the transition date, you will need to periodically rescan your digital televisions and converter boxes. If you lose a channel that was already planned to move, you probably lost reception because the move has taken place.
Digital Channels:
NBC: Will move from Channel 2 analog to Channel 22 digital. Location will remain on Banyan Drive.
PBS: Will remain on Channel 4 analog until late March or so. Will then move to Channel 28 digital. Location will remain in Keaukaha, 2.5 miles east of Banyan Drive.
CBS: Will continue to transmit on Channel 9, converting from analog to digital. Location will remain in Piihonua, 1.5 miles upslope from Hilo Medical Center.
Fox: Will move from Channel 11 analog to Channel 21 digital. Location will move from Banyan Drive to Piihonua, same location as CBS. Will later move from Channel 21 digital to Channel 11 digital. Distance from Banyan Drive to Piihonua is 4.7 miles.
ABC: Will move from Channel 13 analog to Channel 18 digital. Remaining on Banyan Drive. Will later move from Channel 18 digital to Channel 13 digital, and will relocate from Banyan Drive to Piihonua, same location as CBS.
Lesea: Will move ffrom Channel 14 analog to Channel 23 digital. Will move from Banyan Drive to Piihonua, same location as CBS.
TBN: Will continue to transmit on Channel 34, moving from analog to digital. Location will remain at Pepeekeo.
KHHB: Will move from Channel 5 analog to Channel 7 digital. Will remain at Pepeekeo.
Antenna Directions for Outdoor Antennas:
The following directions are to receive the four major commercial networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox) plus PBS, after all of the transmitters have been moved to their final locations. Note that all of the VHF transmitters (CBS, ABC, Fox) will be located at
a single site in Piihonua. The two UHF transmitters (NBC, PBS) will be located in the Banyan Drive-Keaukaha area. This might make it desirable to use two separate antennas, one for VHF and aimed toward Piihonua, the other for UHF and aimed at a midpoint between Banyan Drive and Keaukaha. See separate paper concerning antenna selection.
For the UHF stations, I have chosen a center point between Banyan Drive and PBS’ Keaukaha transmitter site to measure distance. The two true directions are one to Basyan Drive and the other to Keaukaha. Mag is the magnetic compass direction, which is 11 degrees less than true north. Use your compass to align your antenna.

They are better simply because they are designed specifically for digital signal reception. Analog antennas do work but not always.
