Sometimes you dont know what you've got to till it's gone.... pave paradise...

And you aren't going to realize what a community gatherer/social effect that POB's were till they are gone.

In Waimea years ago, mail del was voted DOWN because everyone did enjoy going to the Kamuela post office and running into old friends by chance. IMHO, I think these small 'mainland" changes are what really make cracks in the Aloha spirit. pretty soon everyone close the da kine garage door cuz no carports any mo' and no see neighbors and friends walking the dog. Nevah know auntie got sick cuz no go to post office any more and didnt know she wasnt picking up mail. Is it possible instead of adding del routes, Pahoa PO gets bigger?

But you will have your junk mail delivered to your house and all your stuff safe in garage. Again just MHO and a small rant.

Here is a fun site

http://www.chickeehuts.com/

and it looks so Hawaiian, but is a Seminol Indian enterprise in Florida. Perhaps Leilani estates Home owners would approve?

I think one would be fun in Eden Roc, even a small one for my chicken coop! Just having a little fun, dreaming the dream of home and Hawaii!

So I have a question about Leilani. Do you really get much of a breeze there? Especially on the wet side? It seems mold would be a bit heavy in there.

I stayed in a rental once on one of the first rds that are not under CCR. THis was the moldiest house I have ever been in. It is the craziest vacation story I have ever had and I will not bore you with the details but I am sure the owner wasn't on top of maintence. FYI, the toilet emptied into a bucket so she could fertilize her papaya farm with the compost. Not joking here peeps! There were some sweet little trails around the house and we had fun walking them until we noticed the capped off buckets in their decomp mode!!!!

Aloha punagirl, I live directly across the street from where you stayed. We get trades, but also more rain, more often than the lower parts of Leilani and the dense old growth keeps the humidity very high. Mold is a big problem. BTW the rest of us in the 'hood have real toilets, real bathrooms, and don't particularly appreciate her approach to "recycling". We're all Punatics around here, but that's disgusting!

Raw human sewage used as a fertilizer is worse than disgusting. It is a real health hazard.

She owns a lotof property in Puna. The year I ended up in Leilani (I think it was '02) we were supposed to stay in her house in Puna Beach Palisaides. She forgot that she booked us there and had already cashed my payment in full. We had stayed in the PBP house the year before as well for a few days and liked the location. We calledthe day before leaving and had to leave two messages. She called up back that night and said we must have our dates wrong. I assured her I didn't and she said she made a terrible mistake and didn't know what she would do but she had booked the PBP house out and someone was already there and would be there for another two weeks. I was very upset and has less that 12hours before I needed to get on a plane. She ended up giving us the Leilani house (with no discount for the problem, she thought it was a better deal for us since it has satellite and PBP didn't) and she had tocome back for personal possesins twice during the trip as she was living in the Leilani house and needed to get stuff. One night there was a terrible rain storm and she called at 2 am to ask us to go out during the rain with no flash lights and turn off the generators. I still enjoyed the trip but that was frustrating and the last time I have booked from someone that seemed so flighty.

Fertilizing with human waste is a good way to get e-coli.

Leilaniguy, you are on a beautiful street. And I knew that everyone else had a toilet. I wish I'd known you because I would have asked to borrow yours!
