Any rain yet?

Really! There are "doggles" they can wear when they ride in the car. I have a friend whose sweet dog wears 'em. There ought to be something for storms and New Years fireworks!

Rain hit my house hard yesterday. Looks like my lot is prone to flooding up here in fern acres, so I'll look into flood insurance. Never seen anywhere close to this much standing water, along with a river going down my driveway.

My parents are in town and were talking about a high wind advisory, but thats something they heard from someone else. You know how that goes...

I will never forget the lightning storm we had the night (Mon) after the day (Sun) of the big earthquake. It was my first experience with constant lightning and thunder explosions all around my house for 10 hours straight. This last week-end was almost as bad but it didn't bother me much this time - maybe because it was in the daytime. However, I'm going to buy tranquilizers for my dogs. My dog that was in the 2007 storm was shaking on my bed the whole day Friday because of that bad experience. My question for this board is - did any of you hear any warning ahead of time about either of these storms? Can't the National Weather Service predict them? All I heard from them was that it was going to rain on Friday. I'll have dog tranquilizers ready for my poor dogs next time it happens.
BTW, Merry Christmas!

I was in Kona on Sunday at the Royal Kona. Saw the storm coming in from the South and sat down on the lanai between the bar and restaurant on one of those soft sofas and watched the storm go over head. Lots of lighting, thunder, wind, and rain. Saw a few little funnel clouds try to form, but they petered out before they really formed up. About the time the sky started to lighten up, the storm turned West and came right back over the top of the hotel with heavier rain and stronger wind! Got photos of a very large water spout that formed up by the old airport. One other cool thing going on was seeing Paul Allen's yacht (198' Maduse http://yachts.monacoeye.com/yachtsbysize...use03.html )with it's helicopter sitting out in the bay. What a toy! I was at a little sandwich shop "The Coffee Shack)south of Captain Cook, and the said they had hail there as well.

At about 10:45 today (12/23) I saw the helicopter from the yacht as I came out of Walmart heading towards the airport.

Hi Royal, did you stay at the Royal Kona, would you recommend it? We are planning two night there, considering between the Royal Kona or Islander.

Enjoy the day! Ann

Ann, I've stayed at both and have to say I liked the Royal Kona better. The views from any of the public areas is awesome and a very friendly staff. Food and drinks are a bit on the spendy side and the food its self was OK but not real special. Kamaaina rates was 99 bucks a night with free parking! The Islander has limited parking and if you don't get back to the room at an early hour, you'll have to park across the street. The price per room is comparable to the Seaside also (if there are only 2) and the Seaside charges for parking (they too have limited parking)and has awkward entries from the road due to the busy roads. There are lots of families there so there is a lot kid noise around the pull and sometimes down the halls. Seaside is closer to some of the lower end restaurants the Royal Kona is more where the "action" is down at the other end of town. The Islander is a little in the middle. Hope this helps.
