Every time I walk into Ocean Sushi it is dirty and stinks... not what you want for a place with raw fish. Sushi is good, but atmosphere is a -10

i like to eat at L&L. there is one in Pahoa and two or three in Hilo. They have $5 plate lunches that are big enough for me and my daughter to share.

K's Lunch Counter, Keawe St., Hilo.
Cone sushi.
First ate it there in 1974 and have loved it ever since.

For inexpensive, Cafe 100. The loco moco is tasty.
We also go to Freddy's Manono Mart. They have a lunch order counter with tables to the side or you can go into the restaurant in the back and sit down and have a waitress bring you food.
Subway's for the $5 footlong and then share it. That's lunch for $2.50 each, doesn't get much less expensive than that.

This is an interesting topic. Lots of people like different things!
Quite a few things listed that I don't like, and probably vice versa.
My issue with L&L is they use MSG in almost everything, and I try to avoid it.
But honestly, I try to make my lunch before I go to town, because right now I don't have the money to pick up lunch.

Millie's, on the way to all the beach parks, is one of our faves for a cheap & quick lunch, always served with a smile. Their wraps are really good; also the hot pastrami or roast beef sandwiches. :-)
Cafe 100 when we're in the mood for that - really good fish sandwiches there.
Subway to take to Lili'uokalani Park, or sushi from Safeway's counter.
Chen's at the mall for their mini-plate: 2 choices plus rice/noodles/half&half.

I like Panda Express - You can get veggies instead of rice or noodles and the orange chicken is the bomb.
Soonitaries (sp) next to subway downtown hilo has great pad thai.
Emmas in Shipman or Maui Tacos in the mall for Mexican.

Has anybody tried the Mobile Pizza Parlor? It was parked at Kapoho Rd. & Pohoiki intersection a couple days ago.

Nice thing about Cafe 100: their portions are so large I usually get two meals out of them.
I like the Thai summer rolls at Hilo Farmers Market, too. Those and some fruit are a great cheap meal.
