Cousteau's Punalu'u Resort?
#21
Great show last night, especially the incredible close up film of the humpbacks off of Lahaina.

I've been confused about the Cousteau family tree recently with the talk about Steve Irwin's death a couple of weeks ago. Cousteau's grandson Phillipe Cousteau was with the Crocodile hunter that fateful day filming with him and witnessed the tragedy.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/TV/09/06...index.html

I found out that Phillipe was the son of Jacques' second son Phillipe who died in 1979 in a sea plane accident.

What was shocking to me that I didn't know is that ole Jacques was doing some extracurricular diving later on in life and had a second family that his original family didn't know about until 1991 after their mother died of cancer in 1990!

Actually I read on the upcoming council agenda, that the county is going to attempt
to buy the park from the landowners.

http://tinyurl.com/kd7no is the council agenda. It is Resolution 452-06

Here is the HTH article on that resolution :

I just heard it from a very reliable source that the planned hotel will be branded and run by either The Ritz-Carlton ot The Four Seasons.

the latest hawaii island journal clarified the coustou society position, they said they do not endorse this project, it is just being endorsed by the son, which makes me feel alot better as i thought they were selling out

Apparently Jean-Michael and the rest of the Cousteaus/Society have been feuding since Jacques was still alive. That does not necessarily mean that the Punaluu ecoresort won't be a good thing, but maybe the planning agencies should vigorously insist on public access and preservation of cultural assets and wildlife habitats. The residents of the area have expressed mixed feelings in the press, with the usual claims of the pro side that the con side are obstructionists and the con side that the pros have been bought off. So it goes.

Aloha,
Jerry
