dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after
#21
Ha I think I know who it was! At least there is a guy who lives on beach road that drives a white jeep grand Cherokee with Oregon plates. He's not a cruel man. Must have been a reason for it. Like he didn't see it and got mad when he ran it over.

hotinhawaii - yes I reported it to the police.

Daniel - he most definitely saw the dog. He purposely hit it because he thought it was mine (the dog was walking ahead of me). When he drove past he rolled down his window and said it the dog should be on a leash. He could have easily gone around it but did not. I was about 20 feet behind the loose dog walking my dogs and I thought he was going to run me down. the guy is a dick in my book.

We don't know that the passenger was Japanese. A better description might have been, "a lady with long black hair..." Heck, we don't even know she was "local".

She's not either of those things actually. But I'm sure I would have said the same thing.

You know even giving this guy the benefit of the doubt, which seems like a stretch here, to run over a dog and NOT stop to render aid is terrible. To purposely run over a dog is unconscionable. It makes me sick to my stomach, and I haven't been able to get it out of my mind. Daniel if you know this guy, I would ask that you suggest he post on here and give his side of the story. Without it, he is barely human in my eyes. Angela

The driver could have been distracted by Spunky and the dogs on leashes.

The driver could have glanced away from the road for a second and not seen the dog in time.

The driver may have assumed that dog was on a leash too.

How would you stop and render aid if the dog ran off ??

Well if that is how attentive a driver this guy is it is important for the safety of all of us that he be taken off the road asap. It could have easily been a child or pedestrian he hit if he "glanced away from the road for a second and not seen the dog in time" or was "distracted by Spunky and his dogs". In either case this guy shouldn't have a license and be on the roads. It is a driver's first responsibility to be aware of his surroundings and have his vehicle under control.

It amazes me that some people are making up excuses for this guy, either he chose to hit the dog on purpose (likely if the eye witness account is accurate), he was avenging the dog hypothetically threatening his chickens or kids, or he is a really bad driver who just couldn't help himself. In all scenarios this guy is not someone safe to have around. I walk down there all the time, I would like to be confident that some guy in a white Jeep Cherokee isn't going to run me and my leashed dog down because he either is a bad driver, or a mean and vicious guy who runs down dogs on purpose, or because he thinks my dogs will/have threatened his chickens/kids. The chicken scenario is the least likely, there are very few domestic (not feral) chickens in that part of the park. If you have an issue with an unleashed dog call animal control, don't take it upon yourself to execute the animal with your vehicle; people who use their vehicles as weapons are really scary.

I had forgotten all about that movie, it is a permanent part of pop culture now. I hear people far too young to have ever seen it refer to the scoring system, I bet they don't even know where it came from. I think I was in HS when it came out, my older brother loved it.

...I would like to be confident that some guy in a white Jeep Cherokee isn't going to run me and my leashed dog down....

At the HPP Neighborhood Watch meeting I read spunky's original post aloud and one of our Block Watch captains gasped at the words "A guy in a white Jeep Cherokee/Laredo" then let out a relieved sigh when it went on "with Oregon plates (2nd letter "T", 3rd letter "W")" Our guy drives a white Jeep of that type, but he is not the fellow who ran down the dog. Our guy's plates are Hawaii, not Oregon, and he would have stopped if he accidentally hit a dog. I'm just wanting to make sure everyone catches the distinction as there are at least two white Jeeps down in that part of HPP and the driver of only one of them has some explaining to do.
