You totally lost me with the "continuing to promote violence" remark.

I will buy you a beer entirely VOLUNTARILY. The violence is how Government typically operates which is to have big scary men with guns tell you what to do, what to spend your money on and how to live. For example we all have to pay for this cafe if we pay our taxes, if you don't want to pay for it you will go to jail. Unless KYBC becomes a self-sufficient organization, maybe from people Voluntarily donating through their paypal. In fact I will go donate $5 right now.

You can put Cafe in the purpose box.

edit: fixed the link

Well, we never ate at that KFC. I told my wife about what is going in there and we are going to go eat there for sure. Good way for young people to learn about business. Maybe someone helped by this training might start up their own place later on in life.

Every one of my tax dollars that funds this cafe is a dollar not spent on attack drones.

Which would you rather have?

Neither, I would rather you spent your money on what you wanted. For example donating to the KYBC here:

KYBC Culinary Arts Program started in 2006? I believe it was in 2008 they secured the funding for their mobile kitchen. It has been a very successful program and if they are opening a restaurant should be great![Smile]

Afwjam, could you show some scenarios where Hawaii will put you in jail for not paying taxes?
Not FILING your annual taxes I now is a crime (which is crazy and scary)
I know they can put a lien on your property and attach your wages/bank accounts.
In another life I was paying between $35K and $45K and year in taxes and never had a say so where it went or what it was used for.
I hated doing so for the most part, but I never heard of anybody going to jail for taxes owed IF they filed legit and just didn't have the means to pay. I don't think Hawaii has a debtors prison.
You may know better. Please inform us.
enjoy.

KYBC = trained workers = employable citizens = new taxpayers = a more solvent Social Security & Medicare system
Seems like a good return on investment for the initial taxpayers.

Sad that students & staff lost their original Kea'au home....
....but clearly they'll be a terrific addition to Pahoa.

It's all Puna and it's all good:

KYBC was established as part of a $5 million HUD loan, so that would be Federal pound you in the ass prison. State money does fund it and they are currently trying to pass a law to seize assets for petty misdemeanors, so that would be very unpleasant too, nice that they don't send you to prison like the Feds.

Personally I would be concerned with opening a restaurant in this economic climate, inflation with lowering/flat wages (aka stagflation) is killing disposable income and that's showing up in companies even as large as walmart. http://www.moneynews.com/TheWire/leaked-.../id/490990 . Plus, in my opinion, I can cook as well as better and for cheaper (probably because I don't have to worry about business regulation compliance) Smile

Yes selling your offspring into wage slavery so granny can get her social security check. Winning!!! The math says that perpetuating the ponzi scheme is not a long term solution (look to japan for why). This type of thinking is why I don't think there is a solution via working within the system. How the hell do you logically debate someone who's only concern is how to make sure the government pays them more (with a disregard of what you are doing to the people that have to give up that labor to pay for it)?

It's ironic/funny/sad (not sure what word to use) that we've made it so difficult for a business to hire teenagers and driven the job market to a mass of little skilled jobs in retail that we have to run special state sponsored programs to get them work experience. I remember when you worked at a pizza joint, mowed lawns, got a job at McD's as a 13 - 16 year old to get job experience without a government subsidy.

Riverwolf - Don't pay your property tax. You'll see that force at the auction. But your correct, Hawaii won't put you in prison after they steal all your assets and labor (garnished wages). Why would they want to pay for housing and food for someone that they already stole everything from ? The mob in New York was that nice as well - they'd let you live usually have running your business and credit into the ground.
