Travelling and just picked a little mosquito repellent gizmo that looks like a plug in night light or fragrance dispenser but instead slowly releases one of the pyrethrin derivatives. I'd like to bring in a few dozen to pass around however don't know if customs will take them away.
Anyone seen these in the US?
It seems you can read this .. Please tell us that Papaya link if can ,,,

I think they sell those on Amazon. I contemplated getting one, but I don't really have mosquito problem in the house.

Before Avon came out with this bug repellant/sunscreen product, Avon's Skin So Soft product[s?] were touted by many Alaskans as being an effective mosquito repellant.
The Alaskan Avon reps sold a lot of the Skin So Soft products as
repellants.
As one, like dakine, that was never bothered by mosquitoes much, I never felt the need to try it.
If there are other people around me, they'll go for them first.
Pre dengue scare, I never worried about mosquitoes much.
If you've never changed a flat tire along the Haul Rd. on the North Slope, you have no idea of what a bad case of mosquitoes can be.

More accurately, Avon reps flat-out lied to consumers and pushed their "Skin So Soft" placebo-only-effect cream onto unsuspecting customers and when Consumer Reports called them on it, they started releasing a "Skin So Soft with insect repellent" which Consumer Reports and New England Journal of Medicine tested and found it wasn't much better.
From Snopes:
"For decades rumor has held that Skin-So-Soft Bath Oil is an effective counter to mosquitoes, yet a 1993 Consumer Reports analysis found it ineffective for that purpose. Because so many people were buying the product for its purported mosquito combating properties, in 1994 Avon added a non-DEET repellent and a sunscreen to the popular bath oil and began marketing the new concoction as Avon Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard Repellent. Avon disputes the 2002 results posted in the New England Journal of Medicine study, claiming its Bug Guard Repellent works for three hours, not the 10.3 minutes for its Bug Guard Repellent and the 22.9 minutes for its Bug Guard Repellent Plus the study found, but a 2003 Consumer Reports analysis found the Skin-So-Soft repellent deterred mosquitoes for only one hour."
When I was in Alaska we were all using 99% deet and pyrethrins. I'm guessing somebody fed the Avon reps to the bears.

Not sure if this is the best product endorsement... 'Bombshell's “FRUITY AND FLORAL” SCENT IS ABOUT AS REPULSIVE AS DEET TO THE BLOODSUCKERS"

Still have not found Off Botanicals or any Off wipes for that matter but found some Off in the spray pump at Long's by the mall yesterday (Sunday). I have replaced my perfumes with Eau de Off and Parfume de Cutter! Sounds better than plain ole' Off and Cutter.

As I said, I never found it necessary to give it a try. But, I knew many people that swore by it. Plus, I have no problem with the placebo effect. If taking a sugar pill or an aspirin a day cures your cancer for you, who am I to argue with you about it. It's the results, not the vehicle that counts.
While there
seem to be very few negative health effects in
most users of deet, I shudder at the idea of slathering 99% deet all over my exposed skin. Even in Alaska where one had relatively little exposed skin, I never used anything other than the 30% repellant sticks with the "ice" type material that melted at skin temperature, and then only on rare occasions. I would usually lose the stick long before it ever was used up. It can be applied very lightly. I certainly wouldn't slather that 99% strength of repellant on the amount of skin I have regularly exposed around here.
What you use and how you use it is a personal choice. I choose not to cover my skin with manufactured chemicals.

I have been using Repel Lemon Eucalyptus spray, recommended by Consumer Reports magazine. I bought it through Amazon, since I couldn't find it locally. Sure works for me, and Deet-free.
