Window broken at Pohoiki
#31
shane stop with your finger pointing.first you wanted lifeguards to clear the ramp while you load your passengers.now you expect the security guards to watch your truck.what next, maybe you expect the park caretaker to wipe your butt?why is it the other fishermen dont get treated the way you do?no one wants to help you because you are a know it all.if you were fishing here for 20 years like your website used to say you would know whats up.originally you stated that you were targeted because nothing was taken.now you say this person was looking for valuables.get your story straight before you place blame.i can only speak for myself although many other respectable people from pohoiki feel the same way i feel about you.you play the role of the victim here, poor shane boy.think for one minute what you are doing to others.people reading this dont know the whole story behind you and your intentions.but we see right thru you.we know your true colors.nuff crying already, you know me and you see me almost everytime you are at pohoiki.why are you not able to ask us about your problems?because you are the PROBLEM.like the aunty said at the meeting you dont listen and you have no RESPECT for others which is why no one has any respect for you.poor shane boy.take responsibility for some of your actions, you know what i am talking about.nuff said,POOR SHANE BOY

Sadly, the tone of some comments mskes it sound like violence and other crimes are condoned by some at Pohoiki. I previously posted my feelings that Pohoiki is not appropriate for Shanes commercial venture, but that should be addressed through legitimate channels. Those that commit acts of violence or the intentional destruction of the property of others, should be jailed.

Oink, I agree with you. Without order there is chaos and chaos is not what is acceptable in the United States.
You have to hold people accountable or their actions. There are no "free shots".
You have to adress the feeling of "disenfranchisement" that the "local" people are expressing as well.
It's obvious that some individual is either committing crimes to live on?, or committing crimes against an individual, for whatever reason. It may be the way they are accustomed to dealing with "issues"? Some "local" people feel that no matter what they say, nothing can be stopped or fixed.
Primates use rock throwing as a way to communicate, so you may have hold people to a higher standard. Correcting behavior like this in humans requires the intervention of law Enforcement at times. The fact that crimes are happening daily is just a plain lack of law enforcement.

Also address the rumor that US Veterans are living in the bushes and treat those men like MEN and not like animals. The Vets need outreach coming down there and giving them what they need.
Don't close your eyes to the idea of meth heads breaking into cars either. "Tweakers" stay up for days at a time thinking about how they can rip good people off. MORE DRUG TREAMENT.
Who is 'fencing" all this stolen stuff? Who is buying all this stolen stuff? Watch the swap meets and farmers markets for possibly stolen goods.

As far as clean up of the area ? Can we please have the probation department send down work crews to the landing? If your dumb ass wants to commit crmes then you are going to clean my community parks and rec areas in your "community service hours".
High School kids also have to do "hours" as well, and they can do a "cleaning up the parks" day. It builds charecter.
The Police have a cadet program. If they met in the park and drilled there or did their runs or PE there, it would be a great deterent.
LAPD rookies had to do 1 month of foot beat on Hollywood Blvd and I'm sure HPD could do something similar.
I think that the converting of the area to a State or County park is going to create the problem of where are the homeless that live there now going to go? You won't have people living in bushes in a state or county park.

The previous comments don't condone violent acts at Pohoiki, but rather try and explain why some are targeted, and not others.

Lloyd, Daniel, and a handfull of others have actually been the ones doing the county's job of keeping an eye on things.

They distribute surfboards and stuff to needy keiki, put on keiki surf meets, and generally set a positive example for the youth of the area.

The County needs to step up and meet their responsibilities. I read criticism about the quality of policing in Puna and think folks are missing the point. Sure, some cops are more effective then others, but the root of the problem is their meager number.

When we only have a few officers patroling an area the size of Oahu at any given time. There are going to be some issues concerning response times and follow up.

we don't need better police officers, we need more of them.

just to set the record straight.myself and lots of others dont feel damaging others property or the crimes that go on at pohoiki is right. it is very wrong.we are about trying to make this a SAFE and enjoyable place for everyone.this has nothing to do with race or where you are from.it is not a haole vs local thing.some of my best friends are from the mainland and are haoles.it has to do with the content of your character.if shane feels things arent right, what has he done to help correct this.talk is cheap.all he seems to do is complain.and he calls it our park.what has he ever done to help improve this place.if the volcano wasnt erupting and he wasnt taking tourist down to see the lava would he still be as passionate about OUR park.his thing is about putting money in his pocket.this is not about money to us.it is our way of life.for myself and daniel it is generations of our families who have looked after this place.things are far from perfect but we will keep trying to make this a better place for all.aloha

Are you saying that Shane has been targeted because of his activities at Pohoiki?

iam not saying that.only the person who did it can answer why he chose to do what that person did.shane already said he knew who did it and why.i was just meaning you need to be sure before you point fingers.

I bet if Lava Ocean organized a few clean ups on the slow days & donated food to the guys in the "bushes" it might/could improve the image. Consistantly Sponsoring a "Family day" with surf contest and cook out might help. What would 300 hot dogs cost? maybe about the same as a new window.
How about creating an internship program for local kids to learn to Captain a vessel? Through the local schools, Lava Ocean could approach the local kids with a program to teach them seamenship skills. Organize fishing trips for keiki through the 'Y" or Boys Club?
The Puna Skate park has been in desperate need of a local sponsor, step up.
The feeling I'm getting is that any business can't be all "take, take, take" you have to give back.

I'm not into "lava viewing" but I'm not against others that are into viewing lava. I'm not against people making money but I am against greedy companies that use/exploit "community assets" and don't give back.

going fishing and getting your windshield busted out because of ones views, is real chickensh*t, cowardly and definetly done by a**holes.
this reminds me of that same mentality that one runs across here when you hear someone mumble about "burning your house" down because of a perceived beef with someone.

"poor shane boy" what kind of a comment is that??

i've gone fishing out of pohoiki many times and never had to worry about crap like this, i hope they catch these crooks and prosecute them.
