"historical trauma" really?

Originally posted by another member (and appreciated) in another thread... thanks be to the Noodly Appendage....

(There were originally 10 “I’d Really Rather you Didn’t’s” but two were lost when pirate Mosey was returning from Mount Salsa. Probably inebriated...)

The 8 I’d Really Rather You Didn’ts:

1. I’d really rather you didn’t act like a sanctimonious, holier-than-thou ass when describing my Noodly Goodness. If some people don’t believe in me, that’s okay. Really, I’m not that vain. Besides, this isn’t about them so don’t change the subject.

2. I’d really rather you didn’t use my existence as a means to oppress, subjugate, punish, eviscerate, and/or, you know, be mean to others. I don’t require sacrifices and purity is for drinking water, not people.

3. I’d really rather you didn’t judge people for the way they look, or how they dress, or the way they talk, or, well, just play nice, okay? Oh, and get this in your thick heads: woman = person. Man = person. Samey-samey. One is not better than the other, unless we’re talking about fashion and I’m sorry, but I gave that to women and some guys who know the difference between teal and fuchsia.

4. I’d really rather you didn’t indulge in conduct that offends yourself, or your willing, consenting partner of legal age and mental maturity. As for anyone who might object, I think the expression is go f*** yourself, unless they find that offensive in which case they can turn off the TV for once and go for a walk for a change.

5. I’d really rather you didn’t challenge the bigoted, misogynist, hateful ideas of others on an empty stomach. Eat, then go after the b******.

6. I’d really rather you didn’t build multi-million-dollar churches / temples / mosques / shrines to my Noodly Goodness when the money could be better spent (take your pick) on a) Ending poverty b) Curing diseases c) living in peace, loving with passion, and lowering the cost of cable;. I might be a complex-carbohydrate omniscient being, but I enjoy the simple things in life. I ought to know. I am the creator.

7. I’d really rather you didn’t go around telling people I talk to you. You’re not that interesting. Get over yourself. And I told you to love your fellow man, can’t you take a hint?

8. I’d really rather you didn’t do unto others as you would have them do unto you if you are into, um, stuff that uses a lot of leather / lubricant / lass Vegas. If the other person is into it, however (pursuant to #4), then have at it, take pictures, and for the love of mike, wear a condom! Honestly, it’s a piece of rubber. If I didn’t want it to feel good when you did it I would have added spikes, or something.

Hey lisa, I'd really rather you didn't post dumb crap about a "religion" that is nothing but a joke, and is completely unrelated to the topic at hand. as for these "protestors" lets get real. If they had a job, they wouldn't be protesting -****-. the entire reason they are protesting is because they are jobless and homeless. The problem is, Hawai'i has a really poor education system-they are literally too stupid to figure what to protest. This is painfully obvious as there is very real destruction of Hawai'i going on in other places, destruction of culture, of hawai'ian human bodies. Are the protestors there? No, they aren't. There are people on Oahu protesting wind turbines being built at the north tip, and claim its a "racist lie" they are anti-science. I'm sorry, but at this junction, in 2019, if you're against green energy in any way, i do not give a singular **** where its built, then you're a ****ing piece of **** idiot who doesn't deserve to live, much less be on our islands. The entire planet is in deep crap. We cannot afford to **** around without green energy for any reason whatsoever. It is absolutely essential.

So, since these protestors A. cannot figure out how to protest something that's actually doing damage not only here, but on Oahu as well, and B. cannot figure out that really, the whole impetus of their protest to begin with isn't what they say, its actually because they are homeless and jobless. With those points in view, then, what they ACTUALLY need to do is to get homes built and jobs/education for natives. We already float cushy gov't contract jobs to natives, its been a thing for years now, might as well remove all the wind from the protestors sails and give them all homes and jobs. I guarantee you the ignorant protesting would dry up at that moment. There wouldn't even be people trying to resurrect it. it would just end.

The reason why is that people have a very strong pull to raise a family, to build something so that when they are gone, their kids and other dependents aren't screwed. This pull is generally stronger than others, because its your own flesh and blood. It takes something like war to supersede the call of ohana. Hawai'i is very expensive to live in, and the cash it takes to raise kids here... On the mainland, the average cost to raise one child from infant to 18 is 233,610 dollars. Think of how much more that would be here. Therefore, who has time to protest, build something, and also work a job and raise a family?

I don't know g-number. I'm still trying to figure out how they can afford an 80k truck with a 2k lift kit and 3k worth of tires and rims. I guess if you count on everyone clothing and feeding your children because of the cry "poor me, poor me", the numbers are starting to make sense.

Hey glassnumbers, I didn't like your post at all but I didn't tell you what I think you should or shouldn't post. I hope you aren't turning into yet another pseudo moderator and will point out that the FSM religion is as valid as any other.

Secondly, your thesis on how to get rid of the protesters relies on your personal opinion that it's due to a lack of jobs and homelessness. I am personally and intimately involved with what is happening on Mauna Kea and can tell you that your hypothesis is way off the mark. Simply offering to give everyone homes or jobs will likely just make things worse. But you are still new here and still do not understand all the nuances of the protest so understand why you don't get it. Yet.

"So, since these protestors A. cannot figure out how to protest something that's actually doing damage not only here, but on Oahu as well, and B. cannot figure out that really, the whole impetus of their protest to begin with isn't what they say, its actually because they are homeless and jobless."

I suggest you submit this testimony to the UH BoR hearing on Nov 6th and see how well that goes. Not only will it come off as completely insulting, you'll also do a lot of harm to your own cause, but I don't think you've thought too deeply about that.

Thanks, Tom. I almost addressed the same thing but decided it wasn't worth my time to reply to such ignorant comments. Only thing is to be careful of is assuming that number of posts on this site equates to time spent on this island. Some of us were here quite awhile before joining this group or just don't post very often.
Certainty will be the death of us.

glassnumbers announced his arrival here from the mainland two or three years ago. I'm not assuming things, I'm going by what he's posted.

Having spoken with protesters, I think there is *some* truth to glassnumbers theory. Certainly the lack of opportunity and its effects on self-esteem factor in. There is also some outright racism, even *between* people participating in the protest! And a lot of misplaced blame "America killed us off (really disease), stole our land (most taken by royalty, sold, or inherited legally), and forbid our religion (queen Ka'ahumanu actually)" etc. I suspect there's some political motivation at play too, with OHA wanting more money and a smokescreen for their ongoing corruption issues.

lack of opportunity

Driving away jobs and investment won't fix this, but it will be too late before anyone figures that out.

Ultimately the protesters aren't the main problem, it's the politicians blocking the police from doing their job who are at fault here. The world is full of idiots, do we allow them to cause problems and chaos or do we create laws so they face consequences to maintain a safe society? What we have is a very bizarre local government encouraging the opposite: breeding criminals.

The State of Hawaii now giving new meaning to the word corruption.
