Kathy, about the green mulch: I totally agree. I'd sure hate to accidentally introduce fire ants to my yard or kill all my plants with Round-up. Although I must say that one of my friends has had wonderful success in her garden areas with the green mulch, letting it decompose further in big hot piles before spreading it around.

Erin! I talked to a friend today who said that she puts ironwood needles on the ground between her pineapples and nothing grows there - no weeds at all. Check it out!

one section of pineapples i have growing with mint..another with bush beans and then another with lettuce, cilantro and basil.

Ironwood needles should be perfect! NOTHING grows under ironwood trees. Erin, come on over and we can shovel some up for you.
