Check out this HVO time-lapse video of Pu'u 'O'o taken over several days in February....it presents the best pic of seeing how lava flows actually work, coming back time and again, in and out, with little predictability for a potential homeowner. Pix and videos posted on HVO website in past few hours are spectacular! Mahalo to all the technicians and scientists...and Pele!

i highly doubt it but anybody think that we can actually witness this in person? probably too far away from any point in volcano national park though.

You could actually see a lot from Mauna Ulu and Pu'u Huluhulu but they have now closed off Chain of Craters Road to that area.

Abe, the only way at this point you can witness it in person is to get a helicopter flight over it. The area of yesterday's fissure outbreak is nowhere near developed land and you don't want to hike out there on your own, as you may end up IN the earth instead of hiking across it.
