Is there a political clique in Puna?

A leopard can't change it's spots. Or maybe to keep it local, a white Bengal tiger can't change his stripes whether he's in the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo, the San Diego Zoo, or the Lincoln Park Zoo...

That is why the IRS forbids nonprofits from aligning with politicians and public officials working on direct legislation so they don't use the power of their public persona to influence and sway the voters.

See the thing about the political clique is that they grow from a little seed and turn into a big trash tree.

We can be sure this is true; Sativa is living proof.

Part of it is the state's problem. The only mechanism they have for business and economic development is take general funds and provide them as nonprofit grants. After starting to investigate this, it is much bigger than it looked initially. There are essentially 501c3 scams that are originating out of Puna. Many of these scams started when they were legitimate 501c3 but almost all out of Puna now are inactive status with the IRS, and have been for some time They are not telling the state or the IRS that they are still involved in money collecting activities as well as seeking grants. There are efforts to funnel the state grant money off the island to the mainland. These business and economic development funds are intended for kamaaina locals and the local economy, not to funnel off to the mainland so some people have an excuse to use the island for a residential address. This whole 501c3 scam bunch are all connected by playing fast and loose with their residential address (not saying where they are really living) and unfortunately, making numerous ties with the Democratic party. They are all in the same bunch, identifying with the Democratic party but acting more like they are Teapublicans. Civil Beat wrote an article about one example and this situation will probably come under more scrutiny once this current administration is out of office. Abercrombie was really giving a blind eye to this situation and it won't stand under scrutiny.

Ted. Knock off the political crap - please. Everyone you voted for is a Democrat and everyone in these scams has been too.

From the reaction I see here, this part of Puna operates on very different standards than Hamakua.

I have recent experience with our community getting mad that talks occurred before the issue was run by the community. Normally we are a calm bunch up here, but our recent community meeting ran high with feelings and language.

Someone wanted to propose a project (rezoning involved, big effect on local area). Call him Mr. X.
He approaches our councilwoman to discuss what it is.
He hires a consultant to talk to select individuals and get feedback.

Val (CP) immediately gets radar up and tells X I'm not supporting you in any way until and unless the community at large tells me this is what they want.

Then the community meeting setup gets weird because X tries to do stuff like present privately before our nonprofit board first -- rejected. Then there are some snafus with keeping the people who should be in the loop apprised. The loop here is just the role of the nonprofit in moderating and hosting the meeting to keep it civil, which has a 20 year history up here.

Anyhow, community meeting is called and it's a true community meeting that is announced via email lists that comprise everyone who has ever signed a meeting list and said "yes I want to know what is going on." No clique, no special group.

The meeting still started out as a hot mess, even with Planning Dept, Councilwoman, and great moderator. Reason for mess -- people were angry and suspicious that ANY meeting or discussion had taken place prior to a community meeting. They told X he had lost their trust (again) and it would be very tough to get it back, and without trust he will hit a wall of opposition.

I'm just listening for the most part, fascinated to learn more, again, how things are done where I live, what is offensive and what is pono here. Majority of people in the room were locals with generations of roots in the area, and maybe a third were transplants with varying degrees of longevity.

The outrage at the attempt to negotiate out of view was intense from the local neighbors. Strong words were used. Accusations were thrown at the local guy who had allowed himself to be courted and then came as a pitch man, or a shill. He tried to talk the talk brah to brah but they were having none of it.

It was a real eyeopener to me that Val took a lot of flack for having any conversations with X in private, and with Planning. She basically saved herself by explaining repeatedly that she had immediately said, NO, community meeting comes before any real talk.

I'm a bit surprised that Harry Km participated, but I don't know him well at all, have met him once.

I think it is fair to say that Ruderman would get ridden out of Hamakua on a rail for this type of behavior, and would not get reelected.

Leilani dude says;
"snorkle is apparently taking over for Ken/DiscussTruth in the name calling and diversion tactics."

Snorkadude replies;

You are right dude, and I apologize for calling people names. I'm turning over a new leaf here and will try and act more civil like the others on this thread;

OK, Here goes; Graham and Russell are sons of whores and welfare bums. Even though they have teeth, they don't chew their food well and pee sitting down. Graham once told a joke about Sativa and never even made fun of himself. Russell sometimes wears plaid pants with a checkered shirt, and doesn't trim his ear hair.

I sincerely hope you like my attempt to be as civil as the rest of you guys and allow me to join your clique. Citizens against H.E.R. (Hunt, Ellis, Ruderman)

(Kathy, I really am sorry to bring up Tiffany's name as I know it makes your hemorrhoids itch. I had to do it for the acronym.)

snorkle, there are other ways to be funny than making offensive comments directly aimed at other posters on Punaweb. You might look into it, because what you just did there is be a complete ass. You're right down there with DT/Ken now, and that's a low low place to associate yourself.

Say the same thing to me over a cup of coffee. Would you?
Are you proud of being the guy who spends his days insulting a grandmother?

Aside from the lameness of your comment, why do you even bother when it does not in any way address the content of the topic?

Honestly, trying to discuss anything with you in the topic feels like trying to talk to people about something interesting while someone's two year old is jumping up and down, knocking things over, tugging on sleeves, and is chanting, mommy I have poo poo in my pants, look!

It's really at that level of immaturity recently.

I'm sorry Kathy. I don't understand. Was it the remark about the ear hair? I thought we could talk stink about Graham, Russell, Harry Kim, and Hunt; but not RJ, Sativa or you. I was trying to conform and you call me an ass(can I say that too?). I am so confused.

Please submit a list of who can be verbally abused here and who is "off limits". When you submit this list; please include who has to abide by it and who doesn't. Also include who is allowed to be abusive and who isn't. For example; can someone be criticized for having a homeless parent? How about an abusive parent who fed their child so much sugar that they have no teeth?. I'm just not sure what to say.

I can be abusive if I support your point of view; Right? Please clear this up for me so I can be the 85th member of your clique.

Confusingly yours, Grandpa Snorkadork.
