Yurt spam? By who? A company? I'd be interested to know, that sounds shady, I'd put a call into the company.
David, I did step forward when Lostboy was looking for someone to speak with who had lived in a yurt. I'm not sure what you mean, but I tire of coming under fire here. I don't see the purpose it's serving except to somehow try to invalidate what I'm saying, however, the things I have said here are easy enough to research for anyone who is interested. As I've said, my aim is to have open discussion and tell what I have learned through my experiences with yurts. I lived in a yurt for over a year here in Hawaiian Acres with the aim to buy. I moved not quite a year ago because the man who owned the land jacked the price up substantially after I had made vast improvements. Not that I should have to explain my private affairs, but I will, so that more assumptions aren't added to this "stirred pot". The yurt I built for myself started with an agreement I had with a 'friend', whereby I would build a yurt with an addition on his vacant land. The owner of the property agreed that work and monies spent would be reimbursed or that it would be minused from the final price, however, the other party deemed that it was alright to raise the final price as I made improvements with no reimbursements made, so I made the decision to jump ship and start over, lesson learned. At this time I am working toward getting back into a yurt and I look forward to the day. I will say this now: I have been EXTREMELY forthcoming in this arena and have freely shared a lot of great information. I'm not sure what some of these issues are that are surfacing, seems not to have to do with yurts at all and why the incessant personal twists?

yurtgirl,
thank you for your input as i have been trying to learn more about yurts as well. there are a couple here in the interior of alaska and people live in them year round. even at -45 they do well. we do have a dry climate here so i was wondering how they would do in puna's wet environment.
the more debated here the better. it good to here from all sides to get a good ideal whats the best way to go. i really think a yurt would be so cool. i see where there is one that went up by lava trees park. so someone else thinks it a good ideal
peace

I agree, if people didnt like them then why have they stayed around for a thousand years. And from what I can see. and this is just my opionion (not that i am a expert) because I am not I am still learning. but from what I see on the M.L.S I can spend 70 to 80 thousand for a piece of crap house that needs alot of work and did I mention your lucky to get 600 sq feet for that, I can put up a 30 foot yurt 730 sq feet add on a large lanai kitchen and a bathroom on three acres for 73,000. which with the additions will give you around 1200 sq feet of living space, and to top it all off its all brand new not run down and beat to crap. that total includes a 3acre parcel. hmmm doesnt sound to bad to me and you can be done with it turnkey in about 2 weeks.

] and I have to agree with Yurtgirl, all this bashing crap, is really getting annoying. And you know WHO you ARE!!!! And isnt funny come to find out those individuals dont even live in Hawaii, what un grateful, did I mention spoiled bratt, get a freaken life... Their are those of us that are busting our balls so we can join our friends, brothers and sisters in paradise.[
!] those people like that I dont think make it on the island for very long. You cant hide from yourself in hawaii, and if you can then you dont desrve to live their..
