Oink and Afwhatever, can we be specific please? If you read my eloquent rant, I said, go ahead, bring your rifle if you need to kill animals. I also know many locals who hunt. My next door neighbors with whom I am pretty close for instance. But the OP talked about a .44 handgun and semi automatic. How many locals you know of who carry or shoot assault type rifles. This is what I object strongly to coming to Hawaii. People don't hunt with handguns or assault weapons. Leave this crap off this Island. The state clearly doesn't want them here. As I said, take a Viagara instead. Or see a therapist to become comfortable with your sexual identity.
A .44 is perfect for pig hunting and I don't think you know what an assault rifle is. I forgot that we were talking about sex. No one should be attacked for being a law abiding citizen.

a .44 is also easy to conceal. The more guns on our island, the more guns will be available to criminals. Like it or not, this is FACT. As I previously said, imagine if the punks who robbed the tourists at the hot pond had that .44. Neither stiff jail time or the death penalty have proven to be a deterrent to murder. Once a tourist is killed, the Big Island's only means of economic survival will end. Leave your handguns and masculine-enhancing weapons on the mainland.

Yes, the .44 mag revolver, and to a lesser extent semi-auto, is very popular for hunting pigs as well as deer size game. They are not easy to conceal. I also have a .44mag snubbie and even it's too big and heavy to conceal anywhere other than in a northern climate in the winter. I'm not sure what jackson's issue with semi-autos is. I'm more of a revolver person myself and I used to pride myself for being able to out shoot the young guys and their semi-autos with my old S&W 629 wheel gun. However, I do enjoy a good 1911. I would like to find a limited capacity magazine for my old S&W 669 so I can bring it and comply with Hawaii law. It was my carry/BU gun and then my car gun for so long (27yrs) it's too beat up to have any real resale value so I might as well keep it. jackson, you seem to have some kind of sexual fascination with guns. Some counseling might be of benefit for you.

Concealing any .44 Magnum revolver in Hawaii where where a tank top and shorts is the common dress is not possible any way I'm aware of.

Jackson I appreciate that you think I would be able to convince people that the 3 pound revolver with a 6 1/2 barrel in my pants is not my 629 classic but in fact my large ***** that I do all my thinking with. If I in fact used my brain to think instead of my ***** and I wanted to conceal a handgun I would probably grab a Glock, plastic 9 mm pistols with lots of rounds make for better conceal and carry weapons. I exclusively target shoot with my .44, though it would make quick work of a pig in the yard.

I arrived from Southern California a total pacifist and anti-gun person. I lived in the suburbs and a beach community. In that environment, it was true that the guns had by the criminals were a problem. There was no recognizable use for guns that was legitimate so it just seemed that the more people who had them, the more escalated crime became. Most of the non-criminal gun owners didn't have a clue how to safely store and use their guns. Most have never fired their guns and would be a danger if they tried.
Then I learned to live in Hawaii in the country. Rural life changed my mindset. There are new parameters, new issues, new norms. We have wild boar, wild packs of dogs and other critters that need taking care of. At least there seems a legitimate reason for "normal/non criminal" people to have guns. It also seems normal for them to learn how to use them appropriately. Hunting is a normal activity here. Just seems to me we all need to take a deep breath, not make assumptions and do EXACTLY what is being done here: ask questions, seek safe options, find out the rules.... I do love Punawebbers for just this reason.
