"[...]The other fact is Ruderman is on video multiple times stating he is against science.[...]"
Ruderman earned his BS in biology from Pennsylvania State University. Can't label him as anti-science in any truthful manner.
And how does PT's post claiming proof have anything to do with Ruderman having a fundraiser?
"I just wonder who the buffoon is here."
I don't.

Okay, so we all know that Puna is deeply divided on some issues: geothermal, GMO, experimental housing, ad infinitum. When Russell Ruderman the businessman and musician became Senator Ruderman, he took an oath to represent all the residents of this district whether he personally agrees with them or not. He's perceived as pandering to a faction, which is divisive. This renders him largely ineffective. Frankly, Ruderman's base is out of touch with most of the rest of the state and are perceived as anachronistic and hipper than thou. As a result Lower Puna is now at risk of becoming a full-fledged exclusion zone. We are far more diverse a group than Ruderman and his struggling power click care to admit. Don't you think it's time to bury the hatchet, for a while at least, and work together to keep from become totally disenfranchised?
Un Mojado Sin Licencia
Russell does represent his district, but his district has a pretty diverse population in terms of just about any demographic you can measure, so it is going to impossible for him to please everyone. Puna is also different from the rest of the state, but that is the district that sent him to Honolulu, so he is not going to be in lockstep with the party machine. It is a lot like representing a liberal college town in a conservative state on the mainland, the issues important to the people back home are not going to be the same as the ones important to the rest of the state. It makes for a fine line to walk if the he wants to be both effective and get re-elected.

While I agree that there has been no proof offered to support the "anti science" label being applied to the Senator I can't, in good conscience, accept this logic;
"Ruderman earned his BS in biology from Pennsylvania State University. Can't label him as anti-science in any truthful manner."
That would be like saying an atheist could not have ever been conferred a Doctorate of Divinity. (

Now if Pahoated could rouse himself from his obstinacy and do the Search of The Google that he has suggested others to do then we may have some grist for the mill, assuming the videos bear out his statements. I've done a few cursory searches and not found the incriminating statements....

I'm in general agreement with JohnDW's position and have alluded to same in prior posts (one of which was "Moderated" for some still unexplained reason). However you make a valid comparison of a liberal college town in a conservative state; e.g. Austin as a preserve of sanity in the madness that is Texas (the lunacy of the Punanan's amidst the stolidness of the remaining Eastsiders?) Your key observation though is your last one, "to be effective and get re-elected"... He won his race with a plurality so a re-election is not a certainty and the issue of whether he can forge alliances and gain effectiveness at the Lege remains to be seen. I believe this fundraiser is a step in the right direction.

I think if PT had just not done his usual thing and present opinions as facts, we wouldn't be here. I happen to think some of Ruderman's opinions and policies indicate a mistrust of science, but also that he is being a politician and pandering to potential voters. That's what politician's do. His own business might also come into play.
PT can't do that though and writes quite categorically that Ruderman states he is anti-science on video. Multiple times. With no evidence. He might even be surprised that I wish he had found that evidence because that is what I hoped for when I first asked.
AM, Shockwave and HiloPuna, you all make great points!
"He's perceived as pandering to a faction, which is divisive. This renders him largely ineffective. Frankly, Ruderman's base is out of touch with most of the rest of the state and are perceived as anachronistic and hipper than thou."-JohnDW
Yes, it would render any politician who goes that route ineffective. This is the prime example of why I have nothing good to say about Ruderman. There is not one ethical bone in that man's body. Puna must have peace.
It is time to save ourselves from Ruderman's meritocracy and his self serving posse. Ask yourself who does Ruderman run with? When you look at the bottom of his barrel who do you see? Tiffany, Graham... These people have been plaguing us for decades!!! It is time to rid ourselves of these parasites.
It's time to call you out Russell, you and your little numb nut, Bob Petricci, before you go any further. Four years will be enough! I have watched you grow up Ruderman and you have amounted to nothing. A hill of beans. You deserve not to lead. This is my opinion. You can say what you want about me but I am going to see to it that you are stifled and rendered ineffective. Puna must have peace.
Ruderman's got no rhythm and no soul. None! Ruderman has to pay the band jaringan just to play with him and they still don't look happy about it. Rhythm and soul. That is what we need in the 21st century. It cannot be business as usual. I am sure that there is someone much better to take his place in 2016. There has to be. Let's start grooming them now!.
We have nothing to do from now until 2020 but to see clear and stay clear of Ruderman and his kind. Tiffany was stopped and now we must stop Ruderman. We deserve better. Yes. Puna must have peace.
Happy New Year.

Puna must have peace.
Please do not inflict your version of "peace" on all of Puna; we can't afford the taxes to pay for it.

How wonderful that the brand new, single issue, hate-fueled NDrew sounds so much like sativa! Gosh I was missing her!
