suicide lanes
Death Highways
This problem would be solved if the shoulder lane was open 24/7

Why is it so many of us on Punaweb know the dangers of a 3 lane highway with a passing lane across the center line, as well as the solution (if Hwy 130 was 4 lanes, you could pass in both directions without crossing the center line), yet what the State Highway Department builds us is, to borrow from Bruce Springsteen "a death trap, it's a suicide rap."

You ask why HOTPE? Because the local, county and state governmental agencies here are mostly run by morons who got the job based more on who they know and who they blow instead of what they know and what they can show. Combine this with an uninformed and uninterested populace and you have a recipe for the general half assed methodology you see used time and time again here in Hawai'i Nei. If you are still reading this, none of what I mentioned will change in your lifetime. So love it or hate it, it is what it is. Personally I console myself with the gentle ocean spray, some rantings on PW and plenty of ice in my blender...

When traveling toward Hilo, I always move to the right lane when I hit the three lane section of the highway to avoid that oncoming traffic. Now, if only there were a turn lane at the Keaau transfer station!

Costa Rica and Panama are arguably better run than Hawaii.

Yes -- unlike Hawaii, both Costa Rica and Panama have actual economies.

Yeah, like a totally irresponsible white guy had nothing to do with this. It is all the fault of this place, which apparently Chunkster, Punatic007, and several others were made slaves and forced to live in. Seriously, the biggest problem around here is a bunch of bent haole transplants. If you would get off your lazy behinds, you would see where he tried to pass was the decision of diseased mind, not due to this being Hawaii or any other fruitcake finger pointing. You think it is so much better in Costa Rica or Panama, then move there. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Buh-bye.

Bingo! The brain dead clown who thought that traffic entering the dump from the Pahoa side (full of trash to boot), did not need a dedicated turn lane is one of Gods special creatures.

And you pahoated regurgitate the classic disempowered mentality of the sugar plantation worker which is still alive and well on the Big Island:

We are not worthy, we do not deserve good roads and lets gang up on anybody who tries to change things for the better. Heaven forbid we discuss this on punaweb, who do we think we are? Knock'em down quick!

What's the famous crab analogy here ted? You obviously know it quite well.

"I agree and it's also very important to consider in all DOT traffic plans that we have open immigration policies with Micronesian Islands as well as the Philippines. Puna is currently a hot spot so KEEP IT SIMPLE."

Still trying to make sense of Punatic007's comment and how it relates to the topic of traffic safety in Keaau.
