I sincerely hope not (although I don't think I've said it's the end of the world - no event ever has been). However, hopefully me and the many vastly more qualified epidemiologists that are sounding the alarm bells are 100% wrong and this all blows over. I would love to eat proverbally crow on all this (compared to having to eat real ones Do I sound like a doomsday prepper? Honestly interested in how this info comes across.

To me, you sound like someone at a fork in the road, discussing multiple routes forward. One of those paths is a worst case scenario which you describe, along with other potential outcomes. We don’t yet know where we’re headed, but it’s important we prepare, and cover all bases. I haven’t read anything you’ve posted that’s in the realm of the impossible. Preppers generally convince themselves they didn’t buy a years worth of freeze dried vacuum packed nuggets for nothing, and not only plan for doomsday but hope for it.

I appreciate the feedback. As I mentioned, I'm having similar conversations in several forums and trying to gauge how things sound on the other side of the screen as some have said that me and others are being overly alarmist, pushing Fear Uncertainity and Doubt, or having our tin-foil hats on too tight. I'm trying to modulate the tone to match the audience.
I think the comparison to a natural disaster response fits the situation. Thankfully we've seen that Puna can really pull together under tough circumstances, regardless of the government's ineptitude. I have some hope this is possible again (although supporting each other against a common challenge like lava is fundamentally different than when those in the community might be a threat to your health or safety. This should not be overlooked.) 1v1 - any thoughts on this from being on Leilani's front lines? For anyone who wants a well-curated global news feed about this topic, I highly recommend Reddit's Coronavirus sub. It can feel like drinking from a fire-hose sometimes, but the Mods do a great job of keeping the noise down and the content verified and very high quality. https://www.reddit.com/r/Coronavirus/new/ However, I'm also trolling through the other side of the web as it's clear Google et al are heavily censoring information about this event. There are some very disturbing, but hard to verify, hand recorded videos coming out of China & Iran (Italy is starting up) that shows how dark things can get. If anyone has an interest, follow the link (NSFW!!!)

Ironyak, you definitely seem to be very worried about this, or at least you are coming across that way. I want to apologize for our earlier back and forth during the beginning of all this. I certainly hope you can find some peace in all this craziness. I do think things are getting blown out of proportion (in some) aspects of this and some things are very worrisome.
Our medical facilities were under extreme stress before this, that is my main concern. The list of problems associated with that will be severe. The market is responding terribly which causes more panic. If things get (bad) here, we are in a very unique and good place to be in my opinion. Target was looking bare this morning at 7. Next door at Safeway shelves were full. Prices higher than target on some items but items were there and stocked nonetheless. Panic buying hasn’t set in yet. I personally stocked up more than usual and worst case scenario, it’s all food that will be consumed anyways. Thank you for all your due diligence and posting information, information that we can freely choose to accept or not. Hang in there Ironyak, try and take some breaks from thinking about the virus, clear your mind for a while, trips down to the ocean always work for me. This will be a issue for a while, it will cause psychological problems, depression, fear ect. Much like the eruption did to many. Not enough is being addressed on the psychological impact this will have and has caused. Unfortunately some will be overcome with emotions while remaining physically healthy due to covid19. Support and the community coming together will hopefully alleviate that for some. If the tv is on and all covid19 talk, turn it off. Take a break. Same with the internet. |
